I started a post a while back in the Pluto Conjunct Ascendant tribe, asking if there are any "Soft" looking Scorpio Risers out there like me, because i feel i don't fit the physical description of Scorpio Rising + Pluto conjunct at all. I consider myself "Soft" looking, mostly because of my small-frame and super-feminine features, but the fact that i look so much younger than i am plays a part in that, too.
I notice that Mercury often times keeps Virgo and Gemini looking young, Virgo almost always. My sister is a Virgo Rising, and she as well looks very young for her age. When i look at actresses like Alison Lohman, she's 30, but she clearly looks 18 at the least. I just turned 18 last week, and i swear, just by looking at me you would think that i'm 14.
My Mercury conjuncts my Ascendant in house 12. But, even though Pluto is my only planet in house 1, the Mercury-Ascendant conjunction is much stronger than pluto's conjunction. I'm wondering if any other people with Mercury conjunct Ascendant look exceptionally young. This seems to be a topic i'm fixated on, i just find it so peculiar that i look exactly like the opposite of a Scorpio Ascendant with Pluto in the first.

Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 4:44 AMI also look quite young for my age, 22. I can look 22 but people tend to think I'm a bit younger. I have virgo rising... Virgo might indicate a youthful appearance like you say, since geminian influence tend to do so as well. -

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 5:26 AMyou also might want to consider your chinese astrology rising sign. check out this website that Mantis posted on another thread
www.astrologizeme.com/basics-...se.shtml
scroll down to the bottom. In the center it says "your ascendant comes in to play" . Clock on that and at the bottom of the page it will give the hours of which each chinese sign is asigned to. Find your sign by birth time then go back to " The 12 animal signs for women ". These interpretations are shown to be for the "year signs" but I see that for me it applied spot-on accurately to my rising sign. Read " her personal background " and it will give some clues as to some specific physical qualities attributed to that sign.

Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 5:58 AMScorpio rising people usually have piercing eyes, or so I have noticed in almost everyone I know with that sign rising. In what degree is your Scorpio ascendant, and in what degree is Pluto?
Mercury rules my Gemini Sun and 3 Gemini planets and Virgo Moon, and is in the 1st house in my chart. I think I look my age, but am frequently asked to show my drivers license whenever I ask for a senior discount. Or that may just be something nice people do to little old ladies.

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 6:08 AMMy Rising is in 13 degrees Scorpio, and my Pluto is in 19 degrees Scorpio. I don't think i have piercing or intense eyes at all, but then again, i've never really asked anybody in my family. -

Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 6:31 AMwell, regardless of the sign on the Ascendant, a Planet closely conjunct the AC will strongly modify the energy you project, so it's not a question of which house Mercury is in, but whether it makes the tightest aspect to your AC.
I've seen this with a lot of charts. But you have to be careful when weighing influences. I've noticed, for instance, the case of one of my friends, who has a ton of aspects to her AC, including some conjunctions and oppositions, but the tightest aspects are a trine from Pluto and a trine from Mars, at a less than 2 degree orb difference, and she seems more Aries/Scorpio than anything else.
Of course the energy you project also depends on the other planets and aspects in the chart, but I'd say to a much lesser degree.
So, anyway, if your Mercury-AC conjunction is tighter than the Pluto-AC conjunction, it's only natural that you project a lot of Virgo/Gemini traits. And that would take a lot of the "penetrating" aura of Scorpio, but not completely. Virgo is a naturally reticent/cautious sign, being the sign of self-preservation, it's not likely to jump head-first into new experiences and look for danger, like Scorpio, whose lesson is to face and conquer fear, so it is going to maintain a rather detached, yet inquisitive spark in the eye. -
-
Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 6:57 AMIn all honesty, i have no idea as to what energy i project. I'm very in-touch with my inner - outer, not so much. I would have to ask people around me. I do know that i have presence... only because i walk like a 18th century mongolian warrior about to go into battle. Because i'm so "Soft" looking, people stare at me, i know they are wondering who ass i'm about to kick. I can't say that there really is anything Virgoan about my personality, i'm certaily not self-preserved in the least (I probably need to be, though). I'm always looking for danger. I've been told that i'm an intense person, and this i do know for sure, emotionally speaking. I'm good for letting some deep, depressing remark fly out of my mouth as if i'm asking for some water, and fucking up the mood. But intense and penetrating are two different things. Oh, i don't know.. maybe it all comes down to your personal definitions of these things. -
-
Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 7:39 AMwell, the energy you project also has a lot to do with Venus in your chart.
I've also been told quite a few times that I am intense, and have a "dark aura", but I have a tight Venus-Pluto trine, which is the tightest aspect my Venus makes. -
-
Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 7:59 AMI think any Virgoan qualites i might have has to do with Venus, because Venus is in Virgo, and it's directed to my creativity only.
I still don't know why i wouldn't carry any Scorpion/Plutonian physical traits. Regardless of Mercury, Pluto still is the only planet in my first house, first house ruling the body. At this point i think it's just genetics, i look very young, because my sister looks young as well, and we look alike.

Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 9:01 AMAminah, did anything unusual happen when you were six years old? Reason I ask is that if you have a 13 Scorpio ascendant, and Pluto in 19 Scorpio, it would have been exact through solar arc direction when you were about six years old. It could have been a move to some place, or perhaps a death in the family. Pluto rising also gives an "all or nothing" approach to life--when you move on from something, you cut your losses and don't look back. That may offer a hint of whether you have a Scorpio ascendant.
You may not have piercing eyes, but I think it's funny that the picture that accompanies your name is of a Wolf with piercing eyes. That's what initially reminded me that so many Scorpio rising people I know have piercing eyes!
Just my 2 cents.

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 4:33 PMI don't know about this Mercury theory - I look way younger than I actually am, people usually get my age wrong by at least ten years, but Mercury isn't really a prominent planet in my chart.

Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 5:04 PMCancer rising, with Jupiter in Leo in the 1st
Growing up, people always thought I was older than I am. When I was 13, I'd get questions about whether or not I had children, and I was called "ma'am." Somewhere around 19 things started to turn around and I looked my age, and was also better looking. Jupiter seems to have made me taller, because, though not technically tall, I am the tallest person in my family.
Cancer rising sometimes do look older, and the men lose their hair earlier. Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Twiggy, Kate Bosworth, Milla Jovovich, Julia Roberts, Cindy Crawford, Elizabeth Hurley, Sharon Tate and Farraw Fawcett are all Cancer Risings, but maybe they went through an awkward age early on too.
This website offers the traditional physical descriptions of the planets:
www.skyscript.co.uk/mercury_att.html
Example for Mercury - Commonly depicts a high stature and straight thin spare body, a high forehead and somewhat narrow long face, long nose; fair eyes, neither perfectly black or grey, thin lips and nose, little hair on the chin, but much on his head, and it a sad brown inclining to blackness; long arms, fingers and hands; his complexion like an olive or chestnut colour. Mercury, more than all the planets will usually partake of the influence of that planet: if with Saturn then heavy, with Jupiter more temperate, with Mars more rash, with the Sun more gentle, with Venus more jesting, with the Moon more shifty.
When Mercury is oriental, the complexion is honey colour, or tanned; the stature of the body not very high, but well jointed, small eyes, not much hair; in very truth, according to the height of body, very well composed, but still a defect in the complexion, viz. swarty brown, and in the tongue, viz. all for his own ends. When Mercury is occidental, a tawny visage, lank body, small slender limbs, hollow eyes, and sparkling and red or fiery; the whole frame of body inclining to dryness. -

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 5:31 PMMy sister has Mercury conjunct Venus in the 1st with Cap rising. She did look very young (and beautiful) until she hit her 30's. I hate to say it but age has caught up with her, though it's probably because she smokes and does not have a healthy lifestyle. I am physically fit, a vegan, and do not smoke.
Lifestyle choices are really important in preserving or diminishing youth. -

Mon, October 26, 2009 - 5:59 PMI feel bad saying that about my sister. She's still beautiful and more attractive than I'll ever be, and I'm sure if she quit smoking and was more healthy she would get it back. But I digress...

Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 6:24 PMTeresa,
I have heard that before about Cancer risings. Ironically, I'm constantly clocked in at 5-7 years younger than I am. No one ever believes I'm 30. I've even got Saturn at the IC sextiling theCancer ASC. However, someone mentioned Libra influences and I do have that Libra moon ruled by Venus in 10th.
I'm not too big on the planets affecting physical features aspect of astro, but I will say that I did read somewhere that Mercury on the ASC may make the individual perpetually skinny no matter how much you stuff your face lol

Tue, October 27, 2009 - 2:51 AMYour comments make me wonder about the impact of the ascendant progressing through different signs. -

Re: Mercury and Youth
Tue, October 27, 2009 - 4:21 AMWell, i do know for a fact that my ascendant still lies in Scorpio (According to my progression chart, it hasn't moved to Sagittarius yet). I'm less inclined to believe a "Progression" chart anyway, i just don't think Astrology works that way. If it did, then we would have to change the way we look at Astrology as a whole, every bit of info out there about Sun signs, placements, aspects... would have to be thrown out the window completely, there would be no point for it. -

Well - I wouldn't say the progressed chart completely changes the way we look either. But I would say it shows directions of development of the natal chart ascendant representations.
I certainly wouldn't dare say that your impressive scorpionic presence is at all mitigated by the progressed chart. Just that the progressed chart might point to ways that the scorpionic impressiveness grows and develops.
I wouldn't limit this to signs, either - I'd say new aspects formed by the progressed ascendant to the natal or within the progressed planets to the progressed ascendant could have influence.
For example - when my ascendant moved from gemini to cancer I started "rounding out" but the extra weight would never really stick ... when natal mercury squared the progressed ascendant in cancer it seemed to round out the most - but now i'm shrinking back down.
My expression moved from childlike(sibling-oriented) to mothering - while I did still retain the basic gemini fidgeting and dodgy eyes and talkativeness and youthfulness and changeableness (one of the ways gemini typically turns up).
It was wierd too - I didn't round out EVERYWHERE ... just certain places ... making it interesting to shop for clothes - a very wide range of sizes fit me depending mostly on the way they are designed more so than the actual size all by itself.
But you may not have lived long enough to see the affects of progressions ... they do change quite gradually. -

Thu, October 29, 2009 - 7:45 PMRiptide, I'm with you on the ASC and progression. When mine progressed to Virgo at around age 17 is when I first started caring about health. I often wondered if others experienced that. -

Actually, I think I first heard the whole idea here!
So Im pretty sure that plenty of others experience this hehe :)
Did you feel that you retained some of your leo-ness during the transition in some way?
So far from what I have seen of progressions - it's more of a development or maturation of the original natal formation than a complete overhaul - but I have only lived long enough to see just a few significant progressions.

I wonder if the same thing is true of Tomboys who become feminine. Maybe they had a more masculine ASC that enters a feminine sign in progression. -

NOT LOOKING ANY YOUNGER THAN MY AGE.
Ppl have always guessed im older/thought i look older. But as time go by, their guesses are more accurate pinpointing my real age. When i was 17, people thought i were 21.
Now that im 20, people think im 20, or 21 maybe.

Re: Mercury and Youth
Mon, October 26, 2009 - 7:14 PMWell, i guess i don't look very Mercurial, either. I have an oval face, button nose, pouty, full lips, and almond-shaped, dark brown eyes... i have a "Baby Face" for sure : people.tribe.net/b920f64c-...f29927794f
I'm very lithe, i have long limbs, but i'm quite curvy as well. The classic hourglass, big boobs, big butt, but i have good natural muscle definition too (This is because of Mars conjuncting my Sun).
I'm short, only 5'2", but because of my litheness, i'm not stocky in the least. My fingers are long, but i guess that goes with my long limbs.
So i guess i'm a mix of roundness and litheness... so maybe i'm just look like a Libra????
As for what i project, i have no idea as to what kind of energy i project. I'm just confused right now, i think i the type of energy i project isn't Astrology-related at all. I'm just an X, or a question mark of sorts.

Tue, October 27, 2009 - 6:18 AMI'm a Gemini with a few other planets in Gemini. I'm 38, but, when my gray hair is properly dyed, still get carded when I buy my husband cigarettes and sometimes for lottery tickets, too. I think you have to be 18 for both in this state. Maybe 16 for lottery tickets. There are obviously a lot of convenience store workers out there who need glasses!
