Only the hind legs of Leo rise in the east, so dont worry. The people who feed programs and ephemeris made in their callers dont know and dont want you to know. If it is 15 degrees LEO TROPICAL, then the ascendant is actually Hydra, Monoceros or Canis Minor. Canis Minor is Bush, Hydra is Crowley and so on, very logical since there are 16 EASTERN ASCENDANTS and those surely comply to PRECESSION. Precession dictates all change according to the precessed ascendant set. Nowadays you cant have Aries or Lepus ascending but at the time of King Arthur of Pharaoh Nechepso you could. There are only 16 ascendants today. A world about the zodiac, academic zodiac. Anyone can check for e.g. Moon in Auriga or Jupiter in Ophiuchus on Google Sky. There are also online planetariums that will help you determine the REAL ZODIACAL position of the planet in question. There are 22 zodiacal positions in all. The ascendant can also be determined with precision even by an amateur, especially by an amateur, e.g. Moon ascending in Cetus, Uranus ascending in Cetus or Eros Pluto conjunct, ascending in Cetus. Working with the REAL SKY means hovering aloof from superstition. http://lulu.com/astrology http://www.google.com/sky/ This everyone can chewck for precessed ascendant and local zodiac.

Regulus, the fixed star for fame, is on that degree so some relationship you enter (perhaps when you are 29) may cause you to become famous; or you are well-known for your appearance, particularly the hair/mane or personality, which is generally perceived as gregarious and quite fun. There is no way folks cannot notice you, so don't freak out. Just act like the royalty your public perceives you to be.

Leo Ascendant may not be the life of the party. They are often know-it-alls and intellectual snobs, instead.

And, the 29th degree is THE BIGGEST degree of Leo, and so NOT Virgo. The best way it was explained to me was this: the 29th degree is like being at the screen door of a house on your way out... your mind is on the outside, the yard, the sky, where you are headed; however you are really, most definitely STILL on the inside of the house. Hence, you may want to go unnoticed and be shy like a Virgo; but it ain't happenin'... you are so ultra-Leo Ascendant, so please, welcomely engage your adoring fans in the magnanimous way that is attributed to you.

Hi, Stacy,
My 5th house begins about one third into Sagittarius and continues one third into Capricorn, so it isn't sitting on either's edge. My aspects of Saturn are:

biquintile to Mars in the 10th
sextile to Venus in the 8th
conjunct my moon in the 5th
sextile Neptune in the 4th
trine Pluto in the 2nd

Hope this info helps you. I do think some people have a sense of humor as a child, while others, like myself, acquire one later on (for me it was later in school). I did have brothers who acted silly a lot, lol, but I found that rather annoying at the time. Maybe it's a combination of astological influences plus your childhood or teenage years / environmental influences? I've always wondered about that, since I was acutely aware I had no sense of humor as a young kid.

hey catmeow,
this is interesting to know. I have Sagittarius on the cusp of the fifth house. Is Sagittarius on your cusp or is Capricorn. Also what is your aspects to your saturn. I have a quincunx to the sun in the tenth and a biquintile to mercury in the tenth. Just curious because I am still trying to find my sense of humor. thanx stacy

I have Saturn in the 5th house in Capricorn also, and although I was a serious child, I am quite the mischievous prankster now. However, I do have a Sagittarius moon also in my 5th house, which I think plays a big part in my sense of humor. (my 5th house stretches from Sag into Capricorn)

Transits and progressions to the natal chart can also have a way of emphasising some factors of the chart, so that it may seem hat oher parts are being swamped. At 28 there is also the Saturn Return o consider anyway, when Saturn returns to its own place in he chart and this is not necessarily be a time when the more light-éhearted sides of our being are noticeable. Or there could be oher 'wt-balnket' transits and progressions afoot besides this one...

ned,
I am curious to know where your saturn also is placed in your chart. I have Saturn in in natural sign Capricorn which is intercepted in house five. I too have a hard time being silly and playful but already know that this is related to saturn in the fifth house. I always feel I need to be busy working and there is just no time for play. I think it has to do with my childhood where we pretty much had to do everything in the house and was expected to act like adults with a great deal of responsibiltiy due to my mom being a single parent and having to work all the time. My husband on the other hand is too playful with his mercury, mars and venus in the fifth and the sun in the fourth. He is a Capricorn sun sign and is a very hard worker, yet when he comes home to his domestic life the child comes out and all he wants to do is play lol. My son has also got Leo on the cusp of his fourth house and sometimes I go nuts because every thing is a joke to him and his dad. They tell me I need to quit being so serious all the time loosen up and have some fun. I think they help me a lot because since I have discovered this in my chart and my families chart I try really hard to get silly but then feel really stupid after wards. This is something I am trying to work on, on a daily basis.

my boyfriend's moon is also in a water sign, Pisces. His Mars is in Cancer, and his Venus is also in Sagittarius! Maybe you just need a lighthearted female to yank you out of the pit? I know that a watery moon can really pull you down at times. The Venus in Sagittarius .... I have found that it usually creates the type of person who wants a "buddy" and good friend in his mate first, wants the cheerfulness, playfulness, anything uplifting and nothing too confining. You might feel as though you're at conflict with yourself at times because the Moon sign will make you want to "bond" on an emotional level, yet the Venus in Sag will make you restless and need space at other times. The result is that your emotions are bouncing all over the place. No wonder it's difficult to bring out your playful Leo side! But it's there, I assure you! You can do it. :o) Associate with optimistic people who accept you just the way you are. Surround yourself with what pleases you, like......a certain type of music......pets.... etc...... The brain is a funny thing because it can be trained. The more positive things you surround yourself with, the brain will eventually respond to it. I've also found that even walking on a treadmill to increase oxygen throughout the body can lift your mood, due to the chemical changes it creates. Sometimes it's the little things we do that get us out of a funk.

oops, sorry for the sermon

hey sandra. I've become too self conscious methinks. That whole thing about the leo ascendant putting you up on a stage regardless of whether people are actually watching is true for me. My moon is in cancer so I'm ultra-ultra-sensitive, which totally doesn't jibe well with the leo rising. It's like I'm super shy, but I'm not.

I think it's interesting to think that our ascendant shows what we must become. I always thought this to be different. I thought that it was our north node instead that shows what we become or manifest in the broader sense, and the ascendant as the style or manner in which we'll do that. Like the ascendant being a "micro" aspect of our north node (mine's virgo). For instance, my north node virgo signifies that I might work in something "practical" like accounting or nursing, and the ascendant in leo suggests that I'll be flamboyant at doing it? I hope you're right. I miss that leonian spark and I'm turning 28 next month.

Catmeow, I think you're right in that I need more confidence. Ever since my girlfriend and I broke up about 4 years ago (has it been that long?!), I feel like this "wet blanket" feeling has been progressively weighing down on me. I used to be a lot more playful and kiddish. I was always a shy kid in public, but on a personal level was where my leo ascendant shone, kind of like your boyfriend. I'm moon in cancer so that makes some sense. But now, It's as though that leo spark has gone and all i have is water. I thought maybe it was maybe the square. And its wierd because my venus and mercury conjunct tightly in sagg, and trine the ascendant. And my mars is in leo. What's all that fire up to? Shouldn't I be more upbeat considering?

hi fj,
you are right. I also cringe at getting my picture taken and I am also highly critical (the virgoan part of me) of my physical appearance. My biggest issue is that when I am in a social crowd I will try to be as quiet as possible yet I always feel someone is giving me attention. kind of like a paranoia thing I guess. During my college days I always chose the back of the room or the the back and top of the lecture hall because I always felt there were eyes on just me. Yeah right everyone chooses to look at Stacy out of a hundred students lol. I am just always afraid of being noticed yet in the back of my mind I do want recognition (Sun and Mercury in the tenth) but I think it is mostly based on recognition of my intellect and career: however, that Virgoan trait comes out and then I feel unworthy of this recognition. It is a constatn struggle oh whoah is me lol. Thanks for your input. Stacy

This is interesting, Stacey.
My girlfriend's moon is at 28.5deg Leo andshe has this big problem with being photgraphed, or displaysof public affection. She absolutely cringes at both. She will hold my hand inpublic, but kisses must be quick and conservative with no prolonged passion whatsoever.

She becomes an absolute FREAK when you aim a camera at her, and tries to be humble at all costs. But she is very sensitive about her appearance anyway. I think in the critical degree of any sign, all the contradictions come out and the person has to face them as a final testament and learning experience before they can moce on.

we all get more self-conscious as we grow older...What about ur Moon Sign?If ur Moon sign is fiery, too, that would explain early "leonian" displays, too, perhaps more than the Ascendant, since the Ascendant shows what we must become, and starts to manifest itself fully after the age of 28

Ned, my boyfriend is a Scorpio Sun with Leo Ascendant, also, and he exhibits that uncomfortableness in social gatherings (unless it's close friends). I love it when the Leo part of him shines through! He is so playful, witty, and full of laughter then. Are you sure you're a "let down" on people's expectations? Perhaps you just need a bit more confidence at this stage in your life? :o) I was wondering what sign your moon is in, also? I really think the Leo Ascendant brings out the little kid in us..... it's quite appealing!

How does the ascendant aspect your sun, or other planets?

I'm 13 degrees leo ascendant square 16 degrees scorpio sun, so it's not the critical degree that's problematic here. As a youngster I projected a lot of leonian qualities. Perhaps due to a relative lack of self-consciousness in being young I let my leonian traits shine forth with little inhibition. But as I grew older I became more self-aware, and my scorpionic sun solidified more strongly, and I felt the square aspect manifest more heavily. I almost had to choose to develop my scorpionic self at the expense of my outer persona. Nowadays, because my ascendant squares my sun, I feel really uncomfortable in social gatherings because I initially elicit responses that are "square" the person I have grown to become. And like you, it's something I can't help, because the leo ascendant tends to attract this unwanted attention. My sun is a wet blanket on my ascendant, and I can't deal with being somewhat of a "let down" on people's initial expecations, so oftentimes I avoid social interaction alltogether.

So, when I play at Astro.com, I might move my birthtime up by a few minutes...gives the Virgo Asc interpretation without affecting much else.

Give that a try...see what ya think.

I may appear Leonish, with my "locks of golden chaos" but thats about it for Leo in me...

hi faf, yes I can also relate to the Virgoan side and I think that is where my confusion lies. Sometimes I feel I have one foot that remains in Leo giving me some urge to shine and the other in Virgo making me very critical and hard on myself.
with my Moon in the sixth house maybe that is why my emotions relate more to the Virgo qualities where I lack the self-confidence to shine in the public eye Sun in the 10th) due to being so critical on the self and the fear of others being critical of me.

I too have the 29* Leo asc. With Pluto in the 1st house. And I am more like you say..

I would recommend checking out the Virgo rising info...It is certainly different from Leo, and resounds with me. I also have a 6th house Sun, Mars and Saturn, so this could add to my Virgo~ness...

Our fellow tibester, Steveo, one explained it to me like this...Which seems to carry more energy? the one leaving the room, or the one entering?... Are you one foot out the door into Virgo?
The critical degrees...I'll have to check, if I remember it seems to be important in Virgo...

yes, I really do believe that aspects to the ascendant have a huge impact. My daughter is a Leo ascendant at 13 degrees and she loves the social life and being the life of the party. She is such a show off always singing out loud to draw everyones attention. I have Pluto conjunct my Leo ascendant which is square to Leo's ruler the Sun in the tenth house. When I think about it there were times in my life especially in my twenties when I enjoyed attention and had a lot of self confidence so maybe the Pluto conjunct ascendant square Sun in tenth house means that there will be transformations of self-confidence and this detemines how I will feel in the public eye. On the other hand, you both mentioned compliments and I do love a compliment to boost my ego.lol Thanks for your input.

Ha ha I can relate to both of you....I have Leo Asc at 22 degrees....and i think I fluctuate back and forth because my asc is square my secretive scorpio moon and then I have cap for a sun sign. I think your other placements can really influence your asc. I dont like being the center of attention...ALL the time...but I do like it and i do like compliments that dont sound fake or cheesy. Funny...I have always struggled with wanting to be the star on stage and the man behind the curtain all at the same time.....

Not sure about critical degree though...

I'm not sure about it, Stacy, but my Ascendant is 11 degrees Leo and I'm similar to you, I never would want to be the life of the party; actually I'm quite shy around others (except on the internet). I tend to be quiet at social gatherings, preferring to be an observer. But I read somewhere there is also the "silent' lionness. :o) I know that much gets said about Leos liking flattery, but I hate it, personally, and get suspicious if someone is rattling off compliments. However, if someone is very sincere is saying something nice, that I will accept.

I have my ascendant at 29 degrees Leo and was wondering if there was any significance to this. I am not a typical Leo ascendant as far as wanting to be the life of the party or wanting to be noticed. In fact I am completely the opposite. I find myself very uncomfortable at any social events and even among groups of friends and always seem to be on the quiet side in these situations. However, I always feel like I am center of attention but in a very uncomfortable way. Also when the ascendant is at a critical degree does this mean the person is learning to take on the following signs trait. I thought I read this somewhere but I cannot find anything on it now.
