I've been wondering something...

What if, in a couple of centuries a child is born on mars, what role or influence would Earth have on his/her chart?

And what if a child is born on a space ship, what wil it's chart look like, and will it have more influences in it's chart than a planet born child?

I have no idea, lol, but I hope we have such astrological problems sooner than later. Perhaps the Earth will be like the Moon in Earthling charts? The martian zodiac may need to be created from the ground up...

Oh my! I think it would be a very confused child. 'Earth' would surely have to be a water sign though?

OR PLANET, rather - at least more so than any other element? What sign would rule 'earth'? Hmmm. I think we'll have to make one up! :)

I would guess Taurus, Libra, Virgo or Gemini, since they are the only signs who lack a planet of their own. My bet is on Taurus because of their relation to fertility and worldly resources, which is something we have in abundance compared to the other planets. Besides, it would only make sense that Earth is earth elemental. Imagine if they sent one person of each sign to the moon. I think the Taurus would get home sick first.

Yeah, Alex. Earth would definitely be an earth sign. Even has the word as its name. LOL. I'd go with Taurus as the logical sign for Earth to rule, especially since it is a fixed sign. Venus would then be free to focus on Libra. The mutable sign of Virgo is tempting, though. That way Mercury would be able to focus on the communication of information in Gemini rather than also having to consider the acquiring of it in Virgo. But I have to say that whichever one, it should be an earth sign regardless. There is no earth without Earth.

what about if you were born on a planet that has a moon, or several moons. Which moon would you use? What about earth's moon?

            tough questions to answer.
I think Taurus ruling earth makes as much sense as anything else, but did I read somewhere that sag was related somehow.

Guess you would have to deal with a new paradigm for that, too. It is not like we do much with the moons of other planets anyway. We count distant asteroids, but not any satellites of other planets in our solar system. Not sure what is up with that, but presumably we just regard those as part of those planets.

I can't imagine how Sag would factor in logically at all. Jupiter seems more appropriate for Sag anyway.

No me neither, but I'm sure I read it before but didn't really pay much attention to it. I might google it later and see if its mentioned or if I just made it up.

I'm just speculating, but aren't we all "earthlings" by ancestry no matter where where we're born? I think our moon would have the same function, even if you were born on another planet with a moon of their own. Maybe its powers wouldn't be as strong though, because of the distance. I mean, you can see the Sun and the Moon on the sky quite clear, but the planets, such as Mars and Saturn are really small and hardly noticable. So when you think about how we relate more to our Sun and Moon, the main bodies who have the biggest presence on earth, it makes sense that distance and of course size matters.
I think that all of those 61 Saturnian moons are probably influencing us in some way already. We just haven't mapped their behaviour down yet.

Well, then why aren't we dealing with those in astrology instead of looking to dwarf planets and asteroids? Why don't we ever consider the moons of planets other than our own? I have NEVER heard anyone talk about Phobos with respect to having any influence on a person's chart, ad I would think that other planets' moons would be more likely candidates for effects than a fleck of rock way out beyond the orbit of Neptune. Does this seem weird to anyone else?

              "But earth is 70% water :) "

Well only the surface. I mean if you take into consideration the atmosphere also....plus the whole inner core of magma and all the tectonic planets. I guess we'd have to say that earth is mostly air (atmosphere), water (in air and on surface), fire (inner core), and earth (the rest).

So really we just need a sign that covers all the four elements like earth does....hmmm

Wait a minute! Come on guys, we call it the Earth already. We don't call it Elementus or Hydrosphere or Pneumoglobe, or Ferriswheel or whatever. If Earth isn't earth, then what could possibly be?
                • Re: I've been wondering something...

                  Mon, October 5, 2009 - 3:53 AM
We call it Earth because we're told to, which is fine - it has to be called something. Symantics can't determine the element or astrological sign it's associated with though.

We don't call it that because "we are told to" ~ we call it that because that is what it has been since we called it anything at all in whatever language we have had.

Well some might say Gaaia is the earth, which is a kind of 'oversoul' for the planet or the integrating spirit of the planet, that spirit would be fire. The integration of the physical toward the spiritual is probably sagittarius. Which links us back to my Sag argument.

(I like how you can really make any theory fit for this idea. We simply don't know)

When you were at school, learning about the planets, you were told that planet earth is called.... 'Planet Earth'. You didn't just decide what to call it on your own! The teacher didn't tell you to call it planet 'Woozle', the teacher told you it was called planet 'earth'. At least, that's what i'm assuming :) And yes, of course we all refer to it as 'earth' because that's what we have always known it to be - but we only found that out when we were told, most likely when we were younger at school, perhaps at home.

Well, it seems sort of silly to be taught to call something by a name it is not called. !?! But, we don't call it that just because we were told to call it that. If we call it something else no one would know what we are talking about.

I just love living on Woozle. And then you hear ~ WTF? LOL.

We live on earth, on the actualy earthyness part of the earth - generally speaking anyhow - which might be why it's called 'earth' as apose to planet water, or planet atmos - since we don't reside in those sections of the (here's this word again) earth!!! we could all call it something else, but we would have TO TELL EVERYONE what to call it so everyone ends up calling it the same thing ;) I love Woozle too.

Planet Pentaglobularelementus is not going to take off is it...

I think, etymologically, earth comes from the hebrew eres, originally meant to denote the physical or non-spiritual realm. Normally found as a polarity - heaven and earth. Earth was not really referred to as a planet or thought of in that sense. The other planets, the stars etc were all part of the heavens, so earth really refers to "that which is not in the firmament/heavens", but of course we recognise it differently now.

                  You're right!

We need to rename the earth as Pneumoglobe Elementus, Pneumo for short. Good thinking!
Now we just need to wait for the craze to start. We need to sort it out now before someone comes up with pentaglobularelementus.

I think you have to take into consideration the atmosphere and the inner core etc, otherwise we're just being lazy and going for the most obvious without really giving this careful consideration. I don't think any of the signs we have, make a good fit to be honest.

And all over that earth is air and water heated up by the sun. Without something to reside on, there would be nothing for those things to have any existence at all.

well the earth is no less valid than the air surrounding it. You might say that the earth would not exist without the cooling of magma. In which case fire would be appropriate, and due to the high level of iron in the magmae (just go with it) then you'd have to attribute the earth to Aries.

In astrology, the planets are calculated in relation to your current position, so the moon could be in Pisces in LA, and in Aries in Paris, at the same time. So, if you were born on Mars, you would have to calculate the planets positions in relation to your exact position on Mars, which can't be too hard.
The rising sign position would be trickier though, but isn't the rising sign supposed to be related to earth? So my guess is the rising sign would somehow be calculated between your current position on Mars and Earth. Where's the astronomers when you need them?

I think earth would take on a venusian or jupiter-like role. After all it's even more related to fortune and growth than both venus and jupiter since it is a little warm bubble of thriving highly developed life.

Signwise I agree with Alex that it would probably relate to taurus due to its fertile and life-friendly ground, waters and atmosphere.
Actually come to think of it, the earth might also relate to scorpio since the earth is very much about life and death, spieces and procreating etc. Also considering the earths vast oceans and fertility it's quite scorpio-like... It's actually also a bit cancer-like...

But if we lived on mars and earth would symbolize a sign I'd still say taurus.

Mars had got two moons - I know one of them is called Phobos. Just imagine . the future astrologer discussing afflictions to your phobos. Maybe one moon would be a nurturing 'goody,' the other a more vindictive Lilith-type figure.

Mars meanwhile would be your 'earth' though maybe in a less hospitable sense than Terra.

Phobos was the Greek god of fear (phobia), born to Ares (aka Mars) and Aphrodite (aka Venus). His twin brother Deimos (aka Formido or Metus) was the god of dread. Deimos is the smaller of Mars' two moons. It doesn't sound to me like either one of these has a "nurturing" side at all.

Here is some information about these moons, which seem to be asteroids caught in the orbit of Mars:

              starryskies.com/solar_syst..._moons.html

Both of these dudes look damn ugly to me, and their archetypal reputations are pretty lousy as well. It sounds like they whip around the planet at a pretty good clip. I have never been very interested in living on Mars, and this additional information sort of seals that aversion for me, but ~ hey ~ sounds like a good place for a penal colony or headquarters for certain grotesque corporations and financial institutions that we may soon like to see go elsewhere.
