It was just brought to my attention this "Desendant" thing. I have a scropio rising...so this means taurus is my "Desendant" opposite of scorpio. I have NO taurus anywere in my chart either. The person bringing this up to me, has a taurus rising. so their "Desendant" is du..scorpio. They have only 1 scorpio, nep. in 7th house. I'm being worked on by my ex..ha ha..but ok fine I'll ask the question. Is this opposing aspects a good thing or bad, or both., or niether. In a way I've been at war w/ this person for many years. but we have 3 kids together.. So I'll give this idea consideration. or should I say "Give this idea to anyone that wants to give me their considreation. huuuum...
Thanx folks.

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Wed, October 10, 2007 - 1:56 AMif a person has a stellium inclufing the sun in the 7th house in decendant sign
and only 1 planet in the 1st house (same sign as ascendant) does that potentially make the decendant more important? -
-
Re: Assendant-Desendant
Wed, October 10, 2007 - 8:15 PMPJV
a stellium in the 7H won't make the descendent *more* important than the ascendent - its hard to say something in the chart is more important than something else. The sign that those planets are in will certainly color the personality. The person may seem more like that sign than the rising sign, especially if the stellium has some of the inner planets like sun, moon, venus, etc.
Accordingly the planet in the 1H is going to have a big impact on the personality, - and they may all be aspecting eachother , in opposition, which adds even more to consider to the mix. -

Wed, October 10, 2007 - 8:45 PMWow like 1 1/2+ years ago.
As I understad it a person w/ heavy 1st house, will know those energies in themselfs well. 7th house heavy, will learn about these energies in themselves, through their relationships w/ others..

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 2:22 AMInteresting,, the chart you have mentioned is similar to mine.
Sun conjunct mars Sagittarius (scorpio cusp) in the 7th but conjunct the 8th (sun and mars same exact degree) but it conjunct Mercury and Neptune in the 8th House And they are on the same degree conjunction also.
But conjunct the 7th house cusp by one degree is Uranus in scorpio in the 7th... I do have a combative streak, but a reasonable one..
How would you interpret such a configuration?
I didnt really mean which planet is more inportant. . how can i put this..
some sites and astrologers show which sign is the strongest and which is the second etc... all the way down to the last.. as well as which planet wit the strongest down to the weakest... i would love to have my chart displayed in such a way.. a good example iof what i mean can be found on some of the charts on the astrotheme site.. that is nice.. do u know how to weigh planet ans sign strength in a chart and house, i would love to know,, or do u know of any person or website i can go to for my personally chart to be displayed in this way.. nice to meet u still...

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 7:35 AMAnother thing I thought of, PJV in terms of the "importance" question:
The ascendant-descendant is an axis and like any opposition set up, it calls for balance.
So what I was thinking is that a stellium close to the descendant (if it is indeed close to your descendant) would contribute to that balancing act in its own unique way.
I currently think of ascendant-descendant as a balance between self expression and relationship to others...but I don't have a hugely active ascendant-descendant axis so I may be missing part of the picture.
Anyway, a stellium close to the descendant would make me expect a large focus on others more so than self without any other aspects or w/e to balance it.

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Sun, February 5, 2006 - 1:55 PMMy understanding of the Decendent is that this sign indicates some of the conditions one requires in relationship to stay related over time, as in long-term relationships. This sign often also symbolizes that side of ourselves that we have denied or overlooked. This side of ourselves can integrated by attracting those potential mates that somehow embody the qualities of the sign on our Desc. For you, this does not mean someone with a Taurus Sun necessarily but someone whose energy you experience as constant, loyal and stable or, by being with them, your own energy stabilizes and shows more consistency. The Decendent symbolizes the counterpoint and balancing agent for the ASC, which symbolizes more of your own personal energy by itself.
There is much more to the Decendent but that should be enough to give you the gist of it. -

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Sun, February 5, 2006 - 2:09 PMthanks for the "own it" reminder sherpa . . . it's about those qualities as we see them in others. -
-
Re: Assendant-Desendant
Sun, February 5, 2006 - 2:35 PMI'm missed the "Own it" concept.that lost me.. I get the missing something that you look for to round your self out & look for missing in others that you can round out for them. thats a givin. we are communal beings. My Question was a bit more on a level of this derect ASC-DEC. as rising signs. My guess is this one pos. reason why an almost relentless compatition has gone on. I've alaways felt that if these two energies could worked together they would strengthen each other. But they seem to have done the oposite, by draining each other. I feel this was omong other things, an initail atraction. But the merger never worked. Survival yes but "get up & fly" "take ofer the would", got caught up in an internal strugle to "win", then both loose. -
-
Re: Assendant-Desendant
Sun, February 5, 2006 - 2:45 PMi just meant that he was saying to relate it to YOUR taurin style needs/concepts of relationship, and like he said, not necessarily in people who have conspicuous planets in taurus in their charts. it's about the taurus in your chart. maybe some virgo or capricorn energy in a partner's chart would compliment your taurian needs nicely . . . or venus doing the right dance, or saturn providing an appropriate foundation somewhere. etc., etc. -
-
Re: Assendant-Desendant
Sun, February 5, 2006 - 3:30 PMok. I get that.. maybe it was the "OWN" word. posses, keep, has selfish connotations. I tend to stear away from such things. Once you keep somthing you loose it & so does the rest of the world. create then let it fly. yep yep..then you got somthing. -

Re: Assendant-Desendant

I always thought the descendant as the part of ourselves that is quite difficult to feel as part of us.
Sometimes I thought as if the Desc was how people see us. My sister is a Taurus Des and she has always been seen as an all-practical, persevenrant, hard working, money oriented woman, while I was seen as the irresponsible, too imaginative, free-spirit, no strings attached, philosophic and always optimistic. (I have neptune conjunct sag desc) As the ASC are the glasses with which we see the world,... maybe with the desc works the other way round,... I don´t know... it´s sth that seems to make sense, at leat for me. Is it wrong? -
-
Re: Assendant-Desendant
Sun, February 5, 2006 - 9:55 PMthe ascendant is seen as the lens going both ways how we see the world and how the world sees us. The DSC/7th house has to do with the ways we relate to others. perceiving and relating aren't synonymous.

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Sat, October 13, 2007 - 2:16 PMI've experienced very much what Sherpa said.
With an aquarius descendant, I'm not particularly drawn into relationships with Aquarians, BUT I do tend to be more heavily involved with people who have significant uranus aspects in their charts, or who love in more typically 'aquarian' ways.
It makes me feel more comfortable in my own skin, exercising those good leo rising traits of loyalty, generosity and warmth, rather than pride egoism and arrogance. When someone has too much aquarius energy for me, I find those negative leo rising traits come out.

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Sun, February 5, 2006 - 10:53 PMI'm not sure if this will help any, but for what it's worth, my daughter's asc/desc is almost exactly a mirror image of my own (her's is Virgo/Pisces at 12'54", mine is Pisces/Virgo at 12'01"). She looks and is built is exactly like I did/was at her age, well, she IS my daughter, I know.............but we really do like the same music (though most of the time I'll only admit it to her, since it would be SOO not cool for her friends to know!), and she apparently has a real talent for writing & photojournalism as per her teachers (she wants to be a music critic, which may or may not stem from the fact that the whole time she was in elementary school, I worked doing entertainment pieces and interviews). But the fact is that my other daughter has none of these interests or traits (she's a Scorpio rising), and she grew up right next to her sister. Go figure.

Sun, February 5, 2006 - 10:59 PMwell maybe there is something to the ballencing. maybe the reason daughter #1 has been able to learn a love of something from you so well. May not be her live path forever, but the ballence opened a big inviting door for her, Cool. The other makes her own doors I think.

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 6:16 AMBoth the 7th and 8th house cusps are important to consider when coming to terms with your "shadow" self, and with unavailable strengths that have been repressed along with the "unpleasant" aspects of the signs on both the 7th and 8th house cusps.
The signs on these cusps, among other things, indicate relationships that we will compulsively create until we become conscious of our own destructive and self-destructive behaviors in relationships. Once we do become aware, to the point of being able to embrace and control these "shadow" aspects of self, we will find that we begin to create relationships that are more deeply gratifying--either new ones, or improved current relatiohships.
The position of Venus and Mars by sign and house in our charts indicates the types of romantic relationships that will be truly gratifying. (Sometimes there is overlap, obviously).
The sign and house position of the Ruling planets of the signs on your 7th and 8th house cusps can yeild further info about other areas of life and mind that may be affected by your shadow behaviors in relationships.

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 6:22 AMSaeth... great information. Thanks.
I have a really stupid question though. How many degrees would you consider a cusp extending to? Example... my Saturn is at 7 degrees 46 sec Pisces/7th house. 8th house starts at 8 degrees 19 seconds. Would I consider Saturn to be in Pisces as well? -
-
Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 9:24 AMKim
Saturn is in Pisces, apparently. Saturn is so close to the 8th house cusp however that I would look at Satrun in the 8th as well as in the 7th. Saturn is affecting both aspects of close relationships--contractually issues of commitment, fairness, harmony and balance, as well as the often more soul-dredging issues of deep emotional intimacy, sexuality, and shared survival resources (money, food, etc).
Look to where Neptune is in your chart, as it's obviously affecting both houses. If Aries is on the 7th House cusp...Where is Mars by sign and house, etc. Further, what aspects are being made to the rulers of these two house cusps? -
-
Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 9:36 AMSorry, yes, I knew Saturn was in Pisces, was thinking more about the houses.
My Neptune is in my 4th house, opposing Jupiter/Taurus in my 10th. Venus, the ruler of Taurus is in my 7th.
Aries is on my 9th house Cusp. Mars is in my 2nd.
I have Aquarius on my 7th house cusp. Uranus is also in my 2nd house.
I think I'm going in circles here..lol... getting dizzy. :O) -

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 12:25 PMhey mary- about your child
your ac will dictate a lot about what you look like. you and you daughter are both virgo looking vessels.
the ac is all about presentation. ac is what we look like, how others perceive us as well as how we present ourselves to the world.
its the vessel and external appearance that our soul chose in this life time.

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 1:08 PMHi Kim,
I should never write about astrology around 6 in the morning just stumbling out of bed ;)
If you're okay with giving me your birth data location/date/time, I'll be able to look at your chart as a whole and get a gestalt sense of it as well as being able to track the details. Maybe I can give you some food for thought.
Concerning what you've written...you'd need to look at how the Career/Status--Home/family axis is affecting your relationships both domestically and intimately...and vice versa...
So...yeah..if Aquarius is on the 7th (blush) you need to look at where Uranus by sign and house and aspects affecting it. -

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 1:40 PMSaeth... I do appreciate it. No worries on the post. I'm easily confused sometimes..lol.
There are a lot of issues going on right now with my career and who I am. I want to get into a more spiritually based line of work and I'm battling the thoughts of being able to make my house payments and take care of my kids, while still being happy with my job. I feel like I'm being asked to take a chance, but I'm not sure how much I'm really willing to change right now. If it was just me to think about, no problem. I also don't live in an area that is very accepting of this type of thing. I am taking classes in a couple of weeks to become a certified hypnotherapist and am hoping to branch out in that direction.
Thanks again!

Now that I can look at your chart, the issue of the Asc/Desc. becomes far more important and complex, given that you have, actually, The Sun, Mercury, Saturn and Chiron in Pisces bridging the 8th house cusp--most in the 8th house, and conjunct. Venus is in Aquarius in the 7th house. And this is all in opposition the the Uranus/Pluto/Mars stellium in your 2nd house in Virgo.
Neptune in Scorpio in your 4th house becomes very important as the Ruler of your Piscean Stellium (which includes Chiron "the wounded healer"). To Address all of this here would make for a very long post, so I'll message you. ;)

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 4:25 PMI am just trying to understand the whole Ascendant thing/Descendant. Sun sign Cancer 8 house ,My moon is Gemini in the 7th house, my ascendent is Sagittaruis and descendent is Gemini 7th house. Can you tell me a little more about the asc/desc thing. I have noticed that I attract in friends Sagittarius since my asc is that. Now the Descendent and moon is in Gemini and 7th house, would I attact a love interest of Gemini to be the most compatible? Explain a little bit of these two? I know I also tend to be wishy washy and flipflop over things and also emotions. I know it depends on what planets are in the rest. -

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 4:29 PMElaine - I dont know that much on the subject, but from what I do know I'll offer a very simpilfied explanation:
The ascendent is the lens through which you perceive the world around you, not to be confused with the outward persona which is represented by the Midhaven.
Your Decendent represents the traits that you seek in a relationship - if your decendent is Gemini, you'll be attracted to a person that embodies the traits of a Gemini. -
-
Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 5:05 PMwell that was interesting. Thanks elaine for bringing the thread back to the begining. It wa also fun to see were it went for a while.Brodens the mind.
Ok to recap. We seem to have one- into -two theries going.
"The ascendent is the lens through which you perceive the world around you, not to be confused with the outward persona which is represented by the Midhaven.
Your Decendent represents the traits that you seek in a relationship - if your decendent is Gemini, you'll be attracted to a person that embodies the traits of a Gemini."
As though This is what our selves needs, or serches for, or pos. desires.
The 2nd Idea in this is this is not nessasarily what we in the ling term "Need" to find out side our selfes. but to find "Inside" our selfes, or learn from others to encorperate w/ in ourselves. Making us more hole, & poss. less "needy" he he..
Hummmmm good descussion i think. BTW my spelling really bad hope ya all don't thing ill of me for it. -

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 7:00 PM"Your Decendent represents the traits that you seek in a relationship - if your decendent is Gemini, you'll be attracted to a person that embodies the traits of a Gemini."
I think it's also a description of the way we interact in one-to-one situations, whether it's with a significant other, a friend, an enemy, a co-worker, your waitress at the diner, a stranger you meet at the bus stop, etc, etc... the point being though that it's you and one other person, as opposed to how you interact in group settings (ok, well technically opposed to your first house and the relationship you have with yourself, but you know what i mean?)
I could be way off here. I'm still trying to understand the descendant as well. (I've got DC in Gemini too, conjunct moon (moon's technically in 6th house). I think it's a part of my chart that I tend to ignore, so I'll be interested to see what else develops in this thread)

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 7:25 PMThat makes sense, but what about with my moon also in Gemini with desc? Does that make the descendant traits even more attracted to that type of person? Since they are both in the 7th house?
thank you so much for the feedback all! Just learning more on astrology in the last 6 months. It's fasinating on how much you can learn and when you read everything and study people and ourselves, it makes complete sense. I am reading Planets and Possibilities right now. -

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Mon, February 6, 2006 - 7:56 PM"but what about with my moon also in Gemini with desc? Does that make the descendant traits even more attracted to that type of person?"
I think the "attraction" factor is more wrapped up in the placement of Venus and/or Mars in the chart, while the Descendant gives us more information about the WAY that we interact with other people, whether they're the object of our attraction or not
as for the moon, i dunno - maybe we're more emotionally attached to the interactions that we have with others? hmmm, actually that would make a lot of sense for me - hadn't quite made that association before,... -

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Thu, October 11, 2007 - 8:40 PMI have H7 in Cap and while I've never dated a Cap, someone told me that it might mean I have an attraction to older, sophisticated, grounded George Clooney or that-one-hot-HS-teacher types--which is actually so true. However, I am FOREVER finding myself dating either Aries or Leo men. Despite how they all tend to disappoint me at some point with their "me! me! me! now! now! now!"-ness.
...but, then again I've got Venus, Mars and Merc in Aries. Guess I may like a Cappy ideal, but really like a self-assured fire man who doesn't mind the thrill of romantic pursuit. hehe

Re: Assendant-Desendant
Fri, October 12, 2007 - 6:23 PMI've got the similar Gemini descendant (6th house Gem/sun)and have venus/cancer 7th house so this post speaks to me. My venus in the seventh house likes a full head of beautiful hair which I've found in my Cap mate. very compatible.
I don't find descendant Gemini traits all that attractive, and the other tribe posts (from Sherpa) regarding how people enter the room and the Descendant movement/entering the room, or I'd call a Descendant dance, has been on my mind for the last few. I do have difficulty with the Gemini descendants entry, the discombomulated-ness of it.
I've a much easier time of it with ascendant/sag, also 12th and 1st houses are non-occupied in my chart.
I must take a good look at myself..own these aspects in myself...off to it.
