Is this true? Because I heard that the 10th house is a great indication of fame or public recognition in ones life. My mother went to get a tarot reading and (this was when I was very young) the lady said that I would grow up to be in the public eye some day. Now me being painfully shy and all I said "No way. She's a quack" but the older I grow the more I find my self being drawn to the glamour of theater. I have no planets in the 10 thouse but the ruler of my tenth house, the moon, is in the first house. I'm curious to know if anyone else has planets in the 10th house or a connection to the 10th house, do you want to be famous? Do you like being in the spotlight? Are you currenetly a performer?

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 2:39 PMMy strongest house is the 10th. I think it makes me much more ambitious and hard working. I do like to perform as an outlet (as a musician), though my career goal is not to be a performer. Part of me has always wished I would be a great virtuoso, but I am too practical to follow the limelight.
Leo Asc is often associated w/ being famous (I think Marilyn Monroe had Leo Asc w/ Venus in her 1st House, showing great beauty)... Jupiter in Leo is also an indication of wanting to be a performer. Mozart had a very strong 5th House in Aquarius... he also had Mars in the 10th House (like me). -

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 2:47 PMwell in that case I have Mars and Venus in the 5th (both very strong since mars is the ruler of my sun and venus is the ruler of my ascendant) and I also have the moon in the first house.

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 2:43 PMTeresa, Monroe was as carved as a roast chicken. And that chicken was Norma Jean.
The Leo Rising did its job in her wanting to perform and willing to do whatever it takes to get where she wanted.

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 2:58 PMi'm curious about the 10th house too. it's about "purpose" and"career," right?
my 9H Sun (29'53 Cancer) is conjunct MC (Leo)... planet in the 10H is Mercury, also conjunct MC.
all three points trined by Jupiter/Uranus in 1st house. duno how that would play out exactly...
in my wildest dreams, i do something in the performing fields, and in education as well
i dreamed these up loooooong before i got into astro, so peops shouldn't accuse me of "living by" astro predictions.

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 2:58 PMSimone,
Astrology won't do the job for you. If you want it, you have to go for it.
I don't think planets in the 10th bring fame. They bring great emphasis on responsibility and hard work. My mother has a chart that would otherwise indicate great flair and a knack for charming people:
4 planets in the 10th house, including her Sun, Saturn, and Neptune. Diplomatic, charming Libra Sun. Sociable,- said to be great for the public eye- Aquarius Moon. Mercury conjunct Sun in Libra(dramatic flair in expression), Scorpio Venus(the touch of mystery and depth)
Sagittarius Mars in the 1st(athletic body). Sagittarius Rising-natural beauty and great stamina, Jupiter in the 6th(frequently found in successful artists' charts, due to the indication of making easy money), Uranus in the 8th(a-hehe..)..and so on.
And indeed, nothing would've stopped her if she wanted to be an artist. She was incredibly talented- great singing voice, great talent in drawing and painting, great talent in making clothes, an above-average beauty, with a natural charm, porcelain-white skin, greenish-blue cat eyes, and raven black hair, all finished with the dimpled Libra smile. And indeed incredibly natural. She's probably the only woman I've met that wore make-up for the first time only after her 30th birthday.
BUT..here's the issue: Chiron in the 1st. My mother is probably one of the most severely emotionally damaged people I've ever known, and, in fact, confessed to me that she regretted feeling so crippled by her own insecurities and missing out on all the chances that life brought to her, during the years.
Well, I guess you could also add the death of a child, from which she never really recovered. But, in my opinion, that also had a lot to do with the way she was brought up, and the early influence of her demented family.
So, ya see, it's really up to how well you know yourself and how much you're willing to improve and get where you want. -

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 3:11 PMI was wrong about Marilyn's chart. She had Venus in Aries (like me). She had Mercury in the 10th House.
Here's one astrologer's idea about fame indication in a chart:

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 3:42 PMThe cusp of my 10th house is Leo, and I have Sun, Mercury, and Saturn in the 10th (ruler of 10th in 10th).
Career is the sorest, weakest, worst area of my life. I've never found any livelihood necessary for doling out a paycheck that has been deserving enough of my passion. I feel a strong undercurrent of life purpose, but it does not coincide with job/career for me. Every job I've ever had has brought dissatisfaction and misery. It's either the Saturn conjunct my Sun, or I'm a 10th house fluke!
I was kind of under the impression that the 11th house has more do with fame, because of standing with friends and associations...
I will say that I've had an increasing tendency to take the spotlight in social situations, which I discovered by attending burns for the first time last summer. I like motivating people and getting them fired up... but again, I think that's an 11th house thing instead of 10th. -

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 4:22 PMI would imagine that 11th House fame indications would be via other people rather than yourself. In other words, not by your own merits as much as through your social standings. But it could also be a combo of both, which would help greatly (having both talent and connections).
I agree w/ that one astrologer's mention of Pluto too... I noticed that certain famous people have Pluto in the 8th House, which can indicate being remembered by a lot of people after your death.
-
Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 7:35 AMDesiree,
maybe your right. The 10th house might have more to do with social presence than public recognition. I would imagine that you are recognized easily with the sun in the 10th house. Do you have any planets in the 1st house? -
-
Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 7:24 PMI wonder if the 10th house might have simply to do with lifepath/purpose... regardless if "career" is linked to it. (Although I guess the things you don't get paid for could be considered career.... ) As I mentioned, I feel a strong undercurrent of life purpose. And I feel that I would like to be recognized for it someday. But doesn't everybody feel that way? (Leo MC talking ;)
Somehow I stick out like a sore thumb in ways. I don't have an appearance that would explain it. I do have Uranus in the first house... maybe that adds to the 10th house Sun.

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 4:22 PMAccording to that article, you need to have the generational planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in prominent positions for fame to come easily.
Hehe,I have Uranus in the 10th house of Leo 2º from the MH, Pluto in Virgo in the 10th, and Neptune in the same degree as the Ascendant.
You can tell everybody you knew me when it arrives :P -

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 7:38 AMSirius,
Really? I've never heard that before. That's interesting becuase I do have each of those planets prominent in my chart. Though Uranus and Neptune are actuaally in the 4th house they both make a tight square to my ascendant and tight oppisitions to my midheaven. Pluto (2nd house) makes a trine to my midheaven. Interesting. I have to look over some celebrities charts now. -

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 6:25 PMI think it makes sense in one way.
If your outer planets are highly aspected in your natal chart it could indicate a strong generational impact for your own generation.
But maybe some persons become more famous in a generation other than their own.
Or they might be famous to one generation and infamous to another haha!
I'd think a strongly aspected MC might say more than H10 maybe from what I understand. -

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 7:33 AMMantis,
I realize that astrology is not going to carry me to fame. Nor would I want it to. If I ever become famous I want it to be on my own terms or my contribution to whatever feild I go into. The fact is that I don't seek fame but I do seek prestige. However, I was told that someday I will be in the public eye. I'm not sure if that lady was a fake or what. Only the future will tell.
But after you mentioned your mother having Chiron in the 1st house I got to thinking, I have chiron in the 10th. This can't be good because its also trine my sun. Chiron cause many emotional problems for her? Did it aspect her moon or Venus by any chance? -
-
Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 10:43 AMSimone,
Chiron in the 1st is, I guess, the worst position for Chiron to be in. She is one of those people that was so wounded as a child, that she constantly clings emotionally to others, relies on others to prove her worth. To assure her of her worth. Though, it's all in her head.(everything is, like Fiona Apple said..)
Anyway, it's even worse career-wise, since her Chiron is in Capricorn. It's like she feels she's "unworthy" of getting what she wants-which is totally explainable through her past, childhood experiences.
The Chiron in the 10th is said to either make you success-obsessed(prestige-obsessed), or make you reject responsibilities altogether. Or maybe both...
I have this one, too. And I too have an inner strive for.."recognition", I guess, and I realize that it's purely psychological-because I never felt appreciated in my family(Chiron in Cancer)-but I still can't help it. The truth is I will never rest until I prove them wrong.
I'm definitely not one to strive for spotlight, though. Recognition and fame are two very different things for me.
Chiron's position is just a very deeply rooted psychological urge, I guess. It's all about how you use and control it.
You shouldn't freak out and see it as a "sign", or anything like that. It's all up to you.
Oh, and if it comforts you, I think Angelina Jolie also has a 10th house Chiron. You might wanna check on that, though..lol.

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 4:13 PMLeo Ascendant here with Mars in 10th house Taurus. Simone, I've also always been shy, and I lost out on many opportunities because I failed to be assertive or take the initiative. I agree with Mantis on "going for what you want". I'm more assertive now. In fact, I don't care how old I am, I am still taking a stab at going into the music industry (even if it means writing songs for other performers).
10th house can also be how others see you, or "your public image". Sometimes you have to forget all the stuff you read and just follow your heart. -

I have similar placement as I have the Sun, the lord of my 10H in my 1H. I don't seek fame per say, but wherever I go people turn their heads to look at me whether I like it or not. I've had to learn to sheild myself from their intentions and thoughts. I've bee accused of being a leo because of my strong presence. Another thing to mention is that I am an opera singer with a huge voice that cannot blend with others, so I am in the spotlight in this regard as well.
I wouldn't know if the 10th lord in the 1st can indicate fame, but it sure makes career important to the native! -

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 10:57 AMwell, the Moon shows the most instinctual-compulsive side of your behavior. It works its own way, whether you sign your conscious approval, or not, so people with 10th house Moons have a very strong inner need for recognition and for excellence in their profession.
On the other hand, it can also indicate that you see your profession to be the closest to a "home"(which is basically the same as the above description.), or it can indicate that the choice of profession and/or road to recognition have been almost "assured"to you from birth, as a consequence of your upbringing, family, place of birth etc. - anything related to where you start out in life, the status-quo.
I have a friend with her Sag Moon in the 10th, and her father's an archaeologist-been dragging her around archaeological sites since she was 4, and now, at 20, she knows more than other employees of her dad's that are in their 30s.
I think her passion for the field is especially interesting, since she's a Pisces Sun and Aquarius Rising. Does make me believe that she might find things that will help build the bridge between The Old (Pisces) and The New (Aquarius).

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 8:51 AMSimone,
I have the Ascendant Lord Moon in the 10th. Growing up I really wanted to be famous. I've always been a performer and it just seemed like a natural progression to one day become a movie star. But emotional and physical issues took their toll in my 20's, and set me on a different path. I became more spiritual, and part of that process for me was letting go of my self-importance and my need for other people's attention. I realized that I really didn't want to be a movie star. I still do theater from time to time, and I still have a strong 10th house theme in my life of wanting to create something unique and be my own boss. But my focus has shifted from performing to writing and astrology (a different kind of performance, maybe). I see the lord of the 1st in the 10th as having a very self-directed career, working for yourself, carving out new territory, etc. Because one of my goals is to publish novels, it's possible that one day I will achieve a certain degree of fame. I do feel that it is natural for me to project my personality out into the world in order to connect with many people and hopefully benefit them in some way. But I see now how fame is relative. The world is a big place and you don't have to have the entire population of the world as your captive audience in order to be successful and well-known in your field. I would like a moderate degree of fame of success, just enough so that I get the encouragement and support I need to continue pursuing what I enjoy.

Tue, April 22, 2008 - 4:50 PM"funny. I guess you are a social animal."
You know somehow I don't feel social so much. It is ironic almost like a contradiction but maybe not quite.
I'm not very into being seen or being with the right people or being popular or even preferred or well liked.
It's not even totally about being on "good terms".
It's more of ... how can I be a friend to this person? What is our common ground? How can we work together to make things better?
I am pretty friendly whenever I am around people, but I also am not really into parties and don't define myself by any social scene or feel lost if I have to spend a night alone.
You know how you can go for a long time without seeing someone but still consider them your friend and wish them the best?
It's not totally social but very friendly.
It can also work the other way haha!
Some people are quite social but not very "friend - ly" if you know what I mean ;-P

Re: The 10th house equals fame?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 8:12 PMhow come the ruler or house 1 became important here?
I like this game too, the ruler of my ASC is in the 9th, conjunct MC. I'm all about the meaning of life, Where did i come from, what am I supposed to be doing here, what happens after? I've wondered about this from babyhood. My life has been about this quest. Once I think I know the answers, something comes and destroys it to take me to the next level.
About fame, I think some things in the chart may be against fame ,... like having all your 10th planets being ruled by a planet in scorpio.
I have most planets on the north hemisphere and my strongest planets are the transpersonal ones, specially uranus and neptune. But my MC is in scorpio.... and scorpio likes to hide and pull the strings from behind the curtains. Using other people's energy.
I would not like to be famous at all, but I would love for my life to have a big impact in history, maybe I could come up with a cure for something or invent something important, a healing method. I feel my life will make litle sense if this doesn't happen, but still I'm no where near it happening... unless a lightning strikes me and I get an inspiration! With uranus on the Mc ruling the chart, that just might happen!
I'm hopeful.
I'm pisces with mercury in pisces in exact opposition to saturn, Einstein had something like that! :) -
