i feel like the hardest sign to recognize is a pisces. whenever i find out someone is a pisces, i feel like ?? i didn't see that coming. the problem is that many of the pisces people i know don't act very "dreamy, spacey, or flowy". they can be very outgoing, in your face, and non-emotional. perhaps it has something to do with one's pisces nature being overcast by other aspects in the chart. nonetheless its interesting.

i think this idea of the "sign thats hardest to recognize" is a really good way to pinpoint our blindspots and expand our Self-access. As each of the 12 signs exist within us (at various expressions and latencies), the sign we have the most difficulty with can mirror that part of ourselves (the House that sign rules and the planets in that sign) we are out of touch with and/or have repressed or denied.

For the longest time, Aquarius eluded me. I just couldn't get it; totally stumped. Since my North Node is in Aquarius, I also felt that it was super important for me to get a handle on Aquarius. Since gaining more knowledge and insight into Aquarius, I have also clarified my relationship with what challenges me the most and what encourages my development as an earthbound embodying entity (North Node).

    Excellent topic, Jill.

I have had the same type of experiences with my nodal signs from time-to-time.

But... From the lack of Fire/Air... I have been surrounded by Air/Fire most of my life. It makes me wonder if we do tend to attract what we lack.

I feel enlightened, sherpa. This really does speak to me.

I am an aries (april 19th) but aries are so hard to recognize for me - even with lots of aries buddies - lots. Could the Mars reto in my 12th house explain that blind spot? Other than being a big kid and self-absorbed i dont see any aries sun energy in myself. the sun is opposite pluto in my chart as well.

But i also am a libra rising - and i think i tend to learn about myself through the mirrors of others....

Earth and water energy i can pic up immediately.

i think pisces has a really weird mystique thrown onto them. its almost like the content of what it means is so out there that its not even real..but humans are real and the thing that throws me being a pisces is that i almost buy into that whole mysterious spiritual mutable blending into the formless breath ...but i question it being me or something assigned to me. like its something to embrace out there...not to physically be...does that make sense??? I dont know how useful it is to say what ive just said... theres something about defining something that can create it or render it meaningless.

like maybe pisces energy is something you work towards in your own special way but its not really possible to be it. its like when people meditate for long periods of time and loose all sense of reality and when they come back they have to be watched eyefully because there is no construct of boundary left...they could do almost anything.
pisces is mutable water..so they would pick up on whats around them more...maybe even whomever they are in contact with.
capricorn always throws me for a loop. but my best friend is one...though he has a pisces moon...so maybe that doesnt count. but all earth signs... they are hilarious and make me laff so hard but i feel imaginatively lost with them....and i dont really have much earth in my chart at all. except neptune and jupiter in capricorn in the 11th with hard aspects involved. so i think there is something to not being aware of what it is you're lacking and how much you could understand it..but that fits into what it is to be pisces energy as well...it doesnt translate well in a society and physical realm.

      For sure!

The Pisces influence of Neptune conjunct Jupiter in Capricorn.... going back to Saturn/Pluto Scorpio (maybe even Mars also)....

You are right on! it makes complete sense.... I have the same feelings towards when I read my own sign Cancer (I got a shell, go figure)

Pisces, definitely. No other sign can hide as well as they do.

The only person I couldn't guess my the predominant energy in her chart was a Pisces Sun, Mercury, Venus and a Leo Moon girl.

She seemed very quiet and feminine, but very confident as well, so I thought she was a Leo at first. I was quite surprised to find that she was "acting out" her Moon, after I did her chart.

but, then again, I also have my north node in Pisces, so maybe that contributed to my "blindness".

But I've met many Fish and they are veeery difficult to pin down. Both men and women.

Though, u're more likely to spot the men, due to their unusual air of romanticism and vulnerability.

"Pisces, definitely. No other sign can hide as well as they do. "

That's exactly true! We're very good at hiding our emotions. I can seem emotionally detached to some people because I don't want to show them my (very) sensitive side. And then with other people I show my emotions pretty easily. Plus we reflect what is 'expected' of us by each individual person I think. At least in my case I do, because I'm a 'people pleaser' lol. So they might see me in a way that I unknowingly present myself to them.

    I pick up on:
*a major midpoint in a chart
    *the house of a stellium
*the house placement of the moon
    *planets conjunct vertex
far before a person's sun sign

I don't notice a big blind spot for me with different signs. It does seem like I am more sensitive to some sign energies than others:

*libra - most sensitive to this ... I grew up in "the house of libra"
*sagittarius - sister is a sag (1.5 years apart - we grew up like twins)
*aquarius - I have a personal taste for this energy even if it tends to not have a taste for me so much
*gemini - I always recognize my twin!
*virgo - I feel this one at my core
*scorpio - I see this one right away but mistake lots of other things for it
*taurus - I see this one too right away but I tend to underplay its importance/ second guess
*leo - I have to think about it to pick this one out
*cancer - doesn't stand out but I know it pretty well, I think
*pisces - I just don't pick up on it - but it never surprises me when I find it
*aries - completely eluded me until very recently/ used to be a big blind spot
*capricorn - just kidding! I totally forgot about this one until I re-read this post haha BLIND SPOT!!!

I am forever putting these energies in "the wrong place", though, when I sense them. I simply can't tell the difference between a 3rd house stellium and a gemini ascendant right now.

"pisces - I just don't pick up on it - but it never surprises me when I find it "
same here. i find the male pisces most elusive of all.

cancer is another i can never see but i keep attracting them - especially bosses and male cancers.

    sherpa,
i do really agree with you when you say "the sign we have the most difficulty with can mirror that part of ourselves.. we are out of touch with and/or have repressed or denied. "

my sun is in Virgo so its no mystery that i can't pinpoint Pisces. i think part of it is that i have so many assumptions about what Pisceans should be like because of the planet Neptunes affect on me during transits, etc.. and yet, they never cease to stump me!

"like maybe pisces energy is something you work towards in your own special way but its not really possible to be it. "
that's a really interesting idea, Christmas, from a Piscean herself with a Sun opposite to mine! thanks for cluing me in.

    sandra, when you say

"The only person I couldn't guess my the predominant energy in her chart was a Pisces Sun, Mercury, Venus and a Leo Moon girl.

She seemed very quiet and feminine, but very confident as well, so I thought she was a Leo at first. I was quite surprised to find that she was "acting out" her Moon, after I did her chart."

well, see thats the thing.. i notice that if Pisceans have fire, they just exude the fire in themselves.. and the water is just invisible.. i can't notice their "subtle" self anywhere.

I wonder if this has to do with Neptune being the planet of "fog, illusions, deceptive images" and being associated with the 12th house of our subconscious and hidden side. A Sun in Pisces must be a very weird place to live, as it is tough to put outward expression to such subtle characteristics.

Pi314, im impressed you notice the midpoint first.. i never think about it very much. in which part of person's personality does it strike you?

not neccessarily sun/moon only but sut sun/moon strongly.

Examples would be like ... someone with cancer sun/moon - I will pick up on their emotional/defensive nature right away
or someone with major planets forming an unactivated midpoint structure in libra - I feel that libra energy so strongly - the more planets involved - the stronger I pick it up.

Remember, stelliums are actually midpoint structures!

I think pisces/neptune can be a challenge because of the "reflecting" and adapting to/melding into surroundings.

Virgos have perplexed and intrigued me. My older brother is a Virgo and we just don't see things the same way. We've never had outright fights, but I think we've learned to respect the fact that we don't approach things the same way. Could be just a sibling thing, though.
Taurus is a sign that I don't usually get a feel for...and some Geminis.
I've got mostly Aquarius/Sagittarius in my chart and I've frustrated some people.

    Peace, Bo

'I simply can't tell the difference between a 3rd house stellium and a gemini ascendant right now.'

I don't get houses mixed up with signs, though sometimes I can pick up on a prominent planet, or even certain aspect combinations. I can often pick out signs in people, whether or not that sign's energy is working through the Sun, Moon or Ascendant. I am not interested in trying to pigeonhole other people into one fixed category for ever more, though.

Sometimes it can be easy to be misled by a book description. So I once did not recognise it when someone had a Sun and Moon in Sagg, but did pick up on his Mars sign, which was Libra, mainly by the way he was always trying to pick arguments with me. He did not have the openness of of his Leo ascendant either, because Pluto was rising there.

Never forget that Pisces people are mergers. They say that Scorpio's are shapeshifters, but Scorpios shapeshift with intent. Pisces shapeshift almost accidentally. They always seem to carry over the moods of the surroundings, people and situations, and some energies stick more than others so dont be surprised to find them still exuding energy from a previous conversation or meeting even when the mood of the current situation is different. Since emotions and senses tend to dovetail into one another they tend to get erratic or chameleon- like that way.

I think that's part of the Pisces-Virgo Polarity and the goal of balancing/integrating energies. You said this well Jill. Virgo is giving form (physical materialization) to the spritiual content/drive of a Pisces, because without that structure, it would formless like we all have noted...heads floating off in meditative poses.

I think the artist as a Pisces model fits the Polarity well, because (to me) art is formalizing concepts, or it's materials imbued with spirit. Like Chinese calligraphy..the artist's spirit and mental state is captured in the gesture...

Thanks kt, as a Virgo, I definitely give a nod to "physical materialization" of things. The process of creating something (esp with my hands) is blissful..

I see what you mean by "art is formalizing concepts"... I know a Venus/Mars Piscean who, as he talks, will spread his arms greater and greater and gesture flowingly and look off into the ceiling and all his words will become increasingly abstract.... anyway, you get the idea. He used to work on this project in which he was creating this huge concept map.

The Sun in Pisces are always who get me. I like Lady Saber's reasoning.. explaining why they are "chameleon- like"... I read once a long while ago, way back when I was beginning my interest in astrology that Pisceans were a mix of all the previous 11 signs put in one bag. Has anyone else heard of this?

IM going with my sign Cancer.

Cause peoples jaws drop to the ground when I say I am one... lol

Cancers don't step out of the house... We are dragged out of it.

Nextly... We stick with our peoples... So you don't really bump into us allot.

The most private of the water signs.... Pisces and Scorpio are both related to the public. Focused with Neptune-Pluto dreams... The two-most outer planets.

Moon is the closest object... and is most mysterious in my eyes ;). So close... yet still unexplored. I always liked the three sisters of fate.

I have the hardest time picking up on Capricorn. I think that is because my 12th house is ruled by Capricorn. I always guess them to be a water sign! LOL! Probably due to the 12th house influence in my chart. Sometimes I miss Leo, too. Leo is intercepted in my 7th, but I can usually pick up on Aquarius without any problems. ???

I'm an 8th house Virgo, and have my moon, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Neptune, and Chiron all in water. No one has ever guessed my sun sign correctly. I think this is really funny because I'm very cerebral, and chatter on and on about everything under the sun in extreme detail! Hahaha! But my soul is ever present and I'm alway perceived as "a sensitive soul,..." something not associated with Virgo. My sensitive nature is foremost in dealing with others perhaps because my moon is in close conjunction with my Descendant. The first thing people see is my emotional nature, regardless of my endless chatter about heady subjects.

I can "feel" signs like Virgo, Aquarius, sometimes Aries. I never suspect Gemini, because they're SO fluid. And I really like the Gemini, probably more than is good for me ... in a way I consider them more my "opposite" than my "real opposite" which is Virgo, all of whom I am now trying to avoid. The Virgos. But LOVE them Geminis, and Taurus, and Capricorn, all for different reasons ....

What's the 12th house got to do with it?

If anything, I think the 12th should show the sign u recognize the easiest, cuz it shows the strongest intuition level in one's chart-the typical Pisces "I just know" feeling.

I have Leo on the cusp of my 12th, and I've never missed one before!
