The 5th House and 8th house in sexual relations

Besides venus and mars it is said that the rulers of the 5th and 8th house are significant in relations. For me the ruler of 5th is (cancer so) the moon (in 10th house cap) And the ruler of 8th is (scorpio so) is pluto and mars (in 7th house libra and 6th house virgo respectively) There are no planets in 5th and uranus is in 8th. How do i mesh this all up to come up with an interpretation for myself in realtionships.
For the record venus in 1st in aries and mars in 6th in virgo.

Re: The 5th House and 8th house in sexual relations

I think of the 5th house as relating to pleasure and the 8th as relating to intimacy as far as I understand it right now.
For me these are sort of difficult areas of my life.

I have 5th ruler opposed by jupiter , squared by vertex, and chiron -I tend to not fully enjoy/take pleasure in the moment as I should. I get too wrapped up in meanings and responsibilities and the pleasures/happiness of others.

and 8th ruler opposed by sun and squaring ascendant/descendant. - I have issues with domination/power/control and trust in relationships. I fear control and refuse to be dominated (even if part of me wants to find that person I can trust and give into with pluto in the 5th-libra...no one has proven trustworthy yet and I can't let go until someone does)

It would be interesting to look at your entire chart to see how your chart rulers are aspected and how they fit in the bigger picture.
Here is what came to mind just from what you mentioned (It won't give a complete picture without the whole chart but I will try):

cancer 5th house and moon in 10th capricorn....makes me think of traditional mother-father roles...but I don't know what more to say than that (the 5th house also deals with children) For some reason those seem to mesh into caring for/providing for children to me along with a home.

scorpio 8th and pluto in 7th libra/ mars in 6th virgo...
    with uranus in 8th scorpio
I, too have that scorpio uranus. It probably provides a whole lot of excitement but possibly some instability in the area of intimacy. Does mars aspect uranus? This sounds sort of rebellious and independent to me on at least some level or other. There seems to be something unusual here.

I could be totally wrong! I also don't want to say too much...
If you post your chart people can give you more details and see the whole picture better. I probably wouldn't say anything more than that where everyone could read it, though -I'm trying to get better about that lol.

      Hi Pi314,
Thanks for your input from what you've written i see that the aspects are more important than the positions? I am still learning any advice is useful. I have my chart here

If you or anyone else thinks it will help in answering my query.
I appreciate what you have written and shared about yourself feel free to write what you wish in respect to my chart i don't mind : )

        Oh!
I don't mean to say that aspects are more important than placements...

I like focusing on aspects because they seem to represent options of balance, challenge, flow, harmony and things like that.
But I know that placements are interesting, too because they represent some options or shapes that the energies could manifest in. Both of these things can change as a person grows. Both are important for understanding a situation.

The whole chart tells about aspects to the planets but it also tells about general patterns. If a certain theme is repeated several times it is almost a certainty that it will show up in the person's life. If a theme is only found in one place, it may actually take a different slightly different "shape" to match up with the rest of the chart or it might just get overshadowed by competing/contradictory themes.

Hi Thanks for the clarification on aspects and placements :) It has helped me in my understanding. I am curious about general patterns how do you find a recurring theme? is it if lots of plants are in one house? I think that makes more sense - to try and find an overall pattern pointing to the significant themes than trying to define individual points which may be very small in the scheme of things

Ruler of 5th is the moon
Moon is sextile mercury - communication intelligence optimistim are all features that attract me
Moon is Square venus - Negative - refusal to aknowlegde depth of feelings emotional dysfunction apprehensive about close ties ( i thought this emotional stunt was because of my cap moon)
Moon Trine Mars - has conversational ability and magnetism
Moon Trine Jupiter - seeks deep meaninful relations likes domestic peace

Ruler of 8th is Mars and Pluto
Mars trine moon (repeat does this aspect become more significant now?)
Mars Opposition Mercury - Argumentive disposition
Mars Conjunction Jupiter - Energetic enthusiastic unafraid dramatic

Pluto Trine Sun - has willpower and insight to people
Pluto sextile neptune - believes improvement is through effort
Pluto Quincunx Ascendant - Too serious about responsibilities lets people control.

What do you think am i heading int he right direction?

It sounds like you are getting it Katey!

You have an advantage over any of us in that you know yourself already!

Once you pick out some aspects see which themes repeat strongly and they are probably felt in your life pretty strongly.
It could be the cap moon AND moon square venus working together to amplify each other's effect. It doesn't have to be one or the other if you know what I mean.

interesting, id never thought of doing this exactly like this before..
i also have cancer the ruler of my 5th and my moon is in libra opposite mercury...i am always attracted to aquarius..maybe its the whole disconnect from the emotions...which makes sense that you would initially attract the thing in which you need to work on?
7th house ruled by mercury..which is square jupiter, opposite moon, trine uranus, square neptune, sextile node and trine mc. so intimately i would be attracted to someone very uranian still..... weird. i dont quite see if it works in my case...

            Tue, November 6, 2007 - 7:06 AM
I look for themes in a few ways:

            First with placements

            "1 energy" aries-first house-mars
            "2 energy" taurus-second house-venus
            "3 energy" gemini-third house-mercury
            "4 energy" cancer-4th house-moon
            "5 energy" leo-5th house-sun
            "6 energy" virgo-6th house-mercury
            "7 energy" libra-7th house-venus
            "8 energy" scorpio-8th house-pluto(mars)
            "9 energy" sagittarius-9th house-jupiter
            "10 energy" capricorn-10th house-saturn
            "11 energy" aquarius-11th house-uranus(saturn)
            "12 energy" pisces-12th house-neptune(jupiter)

I look for repeated combinations of numbers or numbers that turn up predominantly in the chart.

Next I look to see if there are repeated aspects like squares, trines, quincunx etc.

And finally, I look to see if any planet acts as a midpoint integrating most of the planets and angles in the chart.

Re: The 5th House and 8th house in sexual relations

    Sat, November 3, 2007 - 12:54 PM
I think of the 5th House as courtship, and the 8th House as the underlying psychosexual emotional dynamics which truly cement a relationship. The 8th House really shows the "give & take", while the 5th House just shows what type of activities you are likely to engage in in the early stages of a relationship.

In my case, my 5th House cusp is at 27* Aries. It is usually a sense of competition and a challenge or achase which gets me going. Also, outdoor activities and highly physical play and resetlessness get me going as well. However, once I am there I need something much more serious and soul-oriented to keep me there...and that is significated by havin Cancer on the 8th. I need sharing of emotions and weaknesses. My Moon is in Scorpio in the 11th, and this gives an idea of the overall quality of my "give & take" and sharing of emotions. I need my lover to absolutely be my friend also and to take part in my hobbies and associations somewhat. Luckily my girlfriend is well-learned on the topic of astrology even though she's not into it like I am. In the case of my 5th House which is ruled by Mars through Aries, my Mars is IN Aries and conjunct the house cusp itself. I have a special connection between my 8th and 5th houses, because the Moon rules my 8th and Moon is in Scorpio which is ruled by Mars....and my Mars is in Aries in the 5th as I said. Mars is the final dispositor because Mars rules Aries, so boisterous competetive play and perpetual courtship usually is the medium by which I remain interested in a relationship. I've learned to tone it down over the years though! ;-)

Now the real mystery is my girlfriend, who has her 5th ruled by Venus (Libra) and her Venus is in Taurus in the 12th House. Her 8th House is ruled by Capricorn and Saturn, and her Saturn is in Taurus in the 12th. She is rather inhibited, stoic and slow until things are just right, and she needs to be coaxed to loosen up and relax. The 12th House makes her prefer to keep her affections very private and hidden from public view, and especially from people who know her but are not involved with her romantically. For this reason, she likes the anonymity of a hotel or parking a car in the middle of nowhere. I think maybe in a past life she was a person with such overwhelming responsibility that she had to keep her love-life absolutely concealed and private. Maybe she was a nun. ;-)

Now in your case, Katey...it sounds like you court your lover by showing or expecting passive and subtle sensitivity, and with the Moon in the 10th you want your lover to be sensitive to your highest goals and take them seriously...or perhaps you want someone who takes their own goals and success very seriously...a tenacious person perhaps, ho works steadily towards what they want. Once you are satisfied these qualties are in place, and that your partner is sensitive to these qualities, then you move forward.
With Scorpio on the 8th, and Mars and Pluto in houses 7 and 6 respectively...I believe it means that marriage and commitment are extremely important to you but you may be overly idealistic, and perhaps you fuss over the details of your partner's personality or their habits. Perhaps you try to change them or they try to change you.

Hi FJ, Thanks for giving examples showing how you put the different aspects together in yourself and your girlfriend. In your interpretation of my aspects the fussiness resonates as well as looking for qualities of determination and ambition. And i thought it was just society's materialism. Thank you fro taking the time out to do this much appreciated.

I got Capricorn ruling my 5th, and Aries ruling my 8th....

Capricorn in Mars, with Scorpio Suns used to be one I couldn't get away from for the longest time. Back-to-back relationships were with this layout.

Mars in Cancer 10th house, and then Saturn in 3rd Scorpio here.

Fixed signs have always had a place in my sexual life. Though I will say... I have to be mentally attached before I will get emotionally attached. Fixed signs = Persistence!

Since the opposite house, is the house of friendships.... Cancer rules over my 11th house.... Sun conjuct Mars in Cancer in the 10th.

So relationships usally do start off as friendships.... and when they do end... Well they usally do remain as friendships!

Since houses are just markers.... It might be wise to look at where the houses/signs of the planet dispositor is at...

If I start with my 5th ruled by Saturn, Capricorn..... I get Saturn in Scorpio, 3rd...The third house is ruled by Scorpio, going back towards Pluto in Scorpio in the 2nd.

Next my 8th house is ruled by Aries.... Going towards Mars in Cancer in the 10th. My 10th house ruler is Gemini, so it goes back to Mercury in Cancer, conjuct to my 11th house cusp.

Friends do mean alot to me.... And securty is up on the list! If I feel too poor... Well then I am just going to drag someone into my self-pity, and into my own misery.

Funny how the 5th/8th .... goes right back to the 2nd/11th in my chart.

For me I start with of 5th is cancer/moon ... i get Moon in Capricorn 10th. 10th ruled by Capricorn/Saturn and Saturn is in 7th house Virgo (now what LOL)

For 8th house Scorpio/pluto....i get pluto in libra in 7th. 7th ruled by Libra/venus and venus is in 1st aries. I know the 1st is all about appearances? so thats significant for me? ( isn't is significant for most people?)

How do you suggest i go further?

Yeah stop there with the energy for the 5th... No need to go dive any deeper then that!

So now I see that the 5th house is expressed through the 10th and 7th houses. With the Mercury - Saturn - Moon as being the signature.

The 10th, 7th, Saturn, Moon all point towards Cardinal type energy. So you have a natural urge to be attracted towards cardinal-type energy... The signs Libra - Aries - Cancer - Capricorn.

In Astrology, the cardinal signs are the first, fourth, seventh and tenth (Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn). These signs are characterised by enterprise, or starting things.

Sometimes Aries and Libra are called equinox signs, and Cancer and Capricorn are called solstice signs. Equinoxes are times of perfect balance between day and night (day and night are 12 hours long). The solstice times are the times of the longest day (Cancer) and the longest night (Capricorn).

Aries and Libra are times of balance, but also times of abrupt change. Cancer and Capricorn are times of extremes.

The 5th house is related to the Sun, it is what we radiate towards..

Not like the 1st house that deals with how others perceive you, and the way you go towards your own Sun sign.

So your natually be attracted to, opposed to be attracting when it comes to the 5th house. A Lion doesn't attract....It attacks! lol.

i tend to think if a person's personal planet falls into your 5th house, there is usually one or a few activities that brings you together that the both of you really enjoy or have a passion for. Sag rules my 5th and it has capricorn in most of the house.i love children and often learn alot from my interactions with them. I also have neptune in the 5th opposite my gemni sun. alot of my friendships and relationships start with discussions on books, ideas, ideals, philosophy, music, spirituality, state of the world, music etc...

jupiter (in scorpio) rules my 5th and so it ties back to the 8th...

with the 8th house, personal experience only tells me that it's inevitable that the relationship is a penetrating one to your psyche and there are definitely transformations, whether they happen quickly or slowly. i've had some extremely fatal attractions for pisceans and still hooked to them :)

then again i have pisces ruling my 8th with an aries moon in the 8th. my relationships can be volatile and start and end very quickly. i always have an urge to merge with my lovers. always wanting to get to the heart of the person and either turn him inside-out, or completely lose myself in the person. sex is very important for me in a relationship. so neptune in 5th and pisces ruling 8th may signify the way things go..hmm.

now aquarius rules my 7th. other than listening to the very interesting things aquarians have to say...well let's just say it doesn't get beyond there. but i think another interpretation of the 7th house is about the nature of your partnerships..what kinda flavour they have. uranus is in my 4th house. this i don't really know what to make off. 7th house libra seems like a person who constantly needs to be in a relationship, one who strive unceasingly for harmony in it - no yelling, violence but tiny cold wars and perhaps subtle manipulation to get the other to do the things u want?

thanks to this post, it's got me thinking..
  • Re: The 5th House and 8th house in sexual relations

The 5th and 8th house do say something about the types of romantic relationships and persons we attract. Sometimes it can be clear-cut but sometimes it takes more than what the house's sign says. I'll use mine as an example.. My 5th house is in the sign of capricorn. I have never been involved in capricorns or guys who embody the capricorn qualities. I am definitely not into authoritative, worldly, ambitious types. However, the ruler saturn( maturity) is in the 12th house, and I've always admired someone who has a different kind of maturity. I look for spiritual/mystical(12th house) rather than a more practical, earthy type of maturity for me to connect to them.
My 8th house is in aries, with my mars in cancer in the 11th house. I have never been involved with any cancer or any aquarian types. I'm very much drawn to scorpios though but that's because of my venus in the 8th house and 2 other planets. Having said that, I don't get obsessed with only scorpio guys.
The most interesting thing I discovered about the types I had been so crazy attached to, was not the sign of the 5th and 8th house and the position of the ruling planets in the chart but how their venuses activate my planet in synastry, more specifically, my uranus. The one constant thing I get is when their venus creates a hard aspect to my uranus. Conjunction, square, opposition.. you name it, I had that with all the guys I was interested in. The ones that did not, well, let's just say I couldn't get into them. It's like I'm looking for that erratic quality in my relationships. Of course they never really last or some of them wasn't really what I would call a real relationship, but it felt so good while it lasts. So I guess look for the most constant pattern in your synastry and you will uncover the type of partner you're drawn to. Good luck!

The 5th house is the house of the sun and the natural home of Leo, therefore no matter what sign falls on the 5th house cusp and what planet rules that cusp, the sun still has something to say of romance to the native. This can make delineating this house both very complex, but also very fun, and full of suprises. The cusp placement of Leo will also be a "romantic' house, regardless of its other functions due to Leo's influence.

The 8th house is the natural house of Scorpio, and is traditionally ruled by Mars, but Pluto is also considered important in modern interpretations. Again, these planets and signs are going to also contribute to the 8th/Scorpio/Pluto-Mars theme regardless of where they are placed in the chart. Intimacy is something that involves the whole being and transforms the person on every level. It is only fitting that the interpretation should be more complicated! LOL!

In my own chart, Mercury rules both the 5th and 8th, and the sun is located in the 8th in Virgo. Mercury is in Libra in the 9th house. This makes for a very intense, restless, curious, highly mental and verbal approach to both romance and intimacy. I'm also big on honesty, depth, and humor in relating to people. I'm pretty tolerant of people, and can overlook offenses that are a result of social clumsiness. I'm aloof in most cases when relating unless I'm physically involved and then I really enjoy an endless horizon of sexual and sensual exploration and experience.

Most of the time I idealize my romantic partner, and am extremely indulgent and generous in attention, praise, sympathy, and love to lavish my lover with gifts and food. I love to talk, laugh, and spend intimate, one-on-one time in quiet places, with beautiful but comfortable surroundings and furnishings.
