I suppose it depends on what a person uses as their definition for creativity! If one thinks of creativity as the process of bringing something to life (ideas - people - emotions - inventions) then I can see how all the different sign archetypes play a role. Some might focus more on the performance ... some on the "newness" ... But even saturn (probably not the first planet that comes to mind when one thinks of creativity) has a role in that without hard work and commitment - it is hard for anything to really be "born" successfully.

'I've always thought of cancer as quite an artistic sign as it is deeply imaginative, receptive and ruled by the moon, I think it's rather strange how this is kind of "downplayed" in astrology.' I don't have anything in Cancer, but I have noticed that this is downplayed in astrology too - certainly, major transits, especially by conjunct to my natal moon have been pivotal for me in shaping my oewn artistic self-expression. I know that Liz Greene has commented that there seem to be a good number of creative artists and poets represented by Gemini and Cancer - but less so with Leo. Leo seems to be more to do with performance, especially acting.

My 5th harmonic chart is fairly active, with Neptune in the 12th house (its home) and in Pisces (its rulership) and less than 1º from conjunct the 29th degree Pisces ascendant. As far as conjunctions go, there is Moon conjunct Mercury, which are sextile to Neptune / Ascendant, which are sextile to a Saturn/ Uranus conjunction, which in turn are trine to a 7th house Libra Sun / Chiron conjunction. I have always been given alot of artistic, photographic, spiritual, as well as inventions creativity. In my natal chart, Uranus is conjunct my Midheaven and in a 1º trine to Mercury, and Neptune is 19 minutes of a degree from exact conjunction to my Ascendant, which I believe adds to that.

There are 3 books I know of that discuss these harmonics, which as someone pointed out, is not an alternative to the radix, but is the radix, but laid out in such a way that certain more obscure aspects become more visible. John Addey is he pioneer on harmonics. He felt that that whilst astrology can tell a lot, there is a lot the radix does not so easily reveal, so his book is the ioneer on this. Long time since I read it though. David Hamblin enlarge what is known about harmonics - this is another peioeering book on the tolic, yet there are times when somehow, he does seem to be clutching at straws to find the parallels he is looking for. Both writers were interested in the symbolism of number, in a very Pythagorean kind of a way. Thus, fours and twos are all about conflict and resolving it. 7 I have seen described as the ability to fantasise, whilst 5 is certainly lined to creativity and I have seen it linked to the purely human ability to be self-conscious: sounds a litle Mercurial to me rather than anything else. Alos, creating order put of chaos, recognition of harmony and pattern, interest in form. However, very strong 5th harmonic charts are also said to be a little obsessive. If you have a 72 degree aspect, a quintile, then this will show up as a conjunction in the 5th harmonic chart, the bi-quintile as an opposition. In he radix, the orb for this should be tight, 2 degrees or less, in order to show up as conjunctions in the 5th harmonic. Harmonics are siad to be not an entirely new idea - the Vedics have purportedly been using a type of harminic - of the 9th - for years, and is sused to judge the suitability of marriage partners. Personally, I think the very best book on the sibject now is 'working with astrology' by Charles Harvery and Mike Harding. It covers midpoints too and is very convincingly written, andis full of case studies. My creative life is very important to me, though it did tend to start off as just glorified doodling. My 5th harmonic does not seem o be hugley strong, the Moon rises in it and ends up squaring Pluto as well as opposing Uranus. My 7th harmonic is stronger because there is a Sun/Moon opposition. Harmonics in which Sun and Moon make aspects, are, according to Harding and Harvery, more important for your overall self-expression and integration. There is also a grand trine in my 7th involving more than 3 planets.

if you want to look at your 5th harmonic chart, go to astro.com, free horscopes, extended chart selection, and scroll down the chart types box and click on the nine harmonic charts (pretty sure that is what it is listed as)... and i always choose in chart drawing style box with asc/mc asp anyway look at the 5th harmonic chart among the charts displayed... what i gathered from the 5th harmonic chart is to first look at the major aspect pattern forming... if its trines and sextiles easy flow or opposition and squares difficult flow or a mix... you will get a vibe. i have a grand cross forming in my 5th harmonic chart with venus conjunct moon, neptune conjunct midheaven, chiron conjunct sun, and ascendant... and i struggle with my creative expression, meaning it is absent or flowing full force... i am more creative after with the calmness after the storm! 5th house aquarius &empty, uranus in 1st house square 4th house sun mercury jupiter conjunction. leo moon in 11th house part of kite formation and grand fire trine with chiron and mars with saturn oppositon to mars in 9th house. Obviuosly almost exact quintiles formed between sun and chiron, moon and venus, and neptune and midlevel, since conjunction in the 5th harmonic occurs when planet in the natal chart are forming a quintile aspect.

forgot to mention I am a scoroio with leo rising and moon in virgo...yes I am a perfectionist in my art..but that could be said of many artists and creative types. not knowing what exactly all this means my 11th house is in Gemini ruled by mercury and my 5th house is Sagittarius rulked by Jupiter. I went to college 12 years for art and theatre and writing. I've always been very creative, from the time I was a child. I wrote my first storybook as a kid, plus poetry. Was into Art, also, and music. I'm an Aquarian with my moon in 5th House Sagittarius. However, Saturn also resides there. I can truly say I am happiest when creating. My Venus in Pisces in the 8th house stimulates me to get my emotions out through creative outlets. I feel repressed/stifled if I go for long periods of time without creating. I'm in that situation right now because I'm not supposed to be spending time having fun with creative outlets; I'm supposed to be doing more responsible things and doing whatever has the potential to bring in money in the future. That kills the spontaneity for me, makes me feel like a caged tiger and very restless (although I'm normally a very content person). My Leo Ascendant likes to add humor to whatever I'm creating, so that's a nice plus. But I can never plan a project, and I don't know if that's Saturn throwing obstacles in my way or what, but something always derails me from a project goal. Even my mother mentioned how she noticed I have constant obstacles and challenges, yet she says she knows I'll eventually accomplish what I'm setting out to do.

I agree with Tim - I would add uranus and Aquarius. I would also consider pisces and neptune for "the imaginative" side of creativity.

I have 5H Aquarius Moon conjunct Chrion both opposed to 11H Leo Uranus. The creativity is there, but its expression can be kind of funky. LOL!
