Hi,

I'm interested in doing a little impromptu correlational study.

If you could help me it would be much appreciated!

What I need is your Sun sign and your Myers-Briggs personality type (if you don't know it you can do this test: www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win...es1.htm)

Let's see if there's a relationship!

Thanks,
Shonna.

  • Just a suggestion... instead of using sun signs to correlate the results with, perhaps use an elemental approach... all air signs, or water-fire signs, etc... I think this my show a stronger correlation! :)

    good luck!!!
    • Valerie,

      Along with your suggestion:
I have Sun, Mercury, Mars and Neptune in Air
Moon, Venus, Jupiter and Pluto in Fire, not to mention my MC
So I'm primarily Air and Fire

Earth and Water are in the minority....Asc & Uranus in Water; Saturn and Chiron in Earth.
      • Again, not sure if you just want Sun but I'll add elements/angles as well.

        INFJ

        Earth-Moon, Chiron, Venus, IC
        Air-Saturn, Jupiter, Pluto, Asc
        Fire-Sun, Neptune, DC
        Water- Mercury, Mars, Uranus, MC

If you need other asteroids, let us know.

Thank the stars I'm not the only "E". (I'll never forget when I took this test and the teacher PURPOSEFULLY made me go last because I was the ONLY "E" in the class. Everyone looked at me like I was some sort of alien! lol!)
  • Here is a nice overview of each of he 16 types.
And links to more detailed interpretations.

    www.personalitypage.com/high-level.html

Since there are 16 types, and 12 Sun Signs, I can't see how you'll find a match up. However, as was mentioned by another poster, the whole chart is probably necessary to see your type, or at the very least, Sun/Moon/Ascendant.

With that in mind, I'll amend my previous post.

    I am INFP
    Sun Gemini
    Moon in Sag
    Pisces Rising

    Mercury conjunct Mars in Gemini
    Venus conjunct Pluto in Leo
    • Wow Meyers Briggs AND Astrology!!!!
I'll just give too much information for now.
Maybe another thread can analyse the correlations to Moon & rising signs

      >Since there are 16 types, and 12 Sun Signs, I can't see how you'll find a match up

It is very likely the types with NT and NF are doubled up on the signs as the iNuitive dominant types only make up 33% of the general population.(Hmm Would that be the Cardinal or Mutible signs) Of course, this tribe seem to attract NF temperaments. (This should likely be a key observation)

for being the rarest of all types, there are a lot of INFP's in this group
          • are you sure about that? ENFJ's are only 2-3% of the population.....

Yep. INFP is the rarest, It's 1 percent of the population.
              www.keirsey.com/personality/nfip.html

INFJ is a little more than 2 percent of the population
              keirsey.com/personality/nfij.html

ENFP is 3 percent of the population
              keirsey.com/personality/nfep.html

ENFJ is found in no more than 2 or 3 percent of the population
              keirsey.com/personality/nfej.html

NF's are few as 8 percent and no more than 10 percent of the population

I read the book, PLEASE UNDERSTAND ME......I did the test in the book.......before I even took the test, I could strongly identify with both INFP and INFJ.........the book has personality profiles that account for a mixture in profiles like INFX....X stands for the combined F and P....I felt that I would end up scoring as an INFX. Sure enough,my results were INFX. That was back in 1999.

I also don;t believe that it's no surprise that there are a lot of INFP's here. After all, it's not like most people in this world are into occult, metaphysical subjects.. I wouldn't go around telling mental health practitioners that I am an astrologer nor talk about being a psychic emotional sponge which my Moon in Pisces square Neptune indicates. I keep that to myself. I already fit outside the box because of my Dyslexia,Dyspraxia..especially in my speech irregularities...that got me misdiagnosed as having a psychotic disorder by psychiatrists. It took years later to be vindicated by neurologists confirming that I have neurological issues and not psychotic issues.
              • "I also don;t believe that it's no surprise that there are a lot of INFP's here. After all, it's not like most people in this world are into occult, metaphysical subjects.."

It would be interesting if we could get a cross-section of Tribe members in general to take this test. I'm curious if INFP might show up above average in numbers throughout Tribe, not just on the Astrology Tribe.

Also, I've often wondered if INFP, INFJ, ENFP and ENFJ would be found to dominate MENSA members.
                • I just found this on the MENSA site:

Dr. John Gieniec reported in the September 1987 Mensa Bulletin that Mensans' scores are different on the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBTI) than the population at large. MBTI's categories are Extraversion/Introversion (E/I), Sensing/iNtuition (S/N), Thinking/ Feeling (T/F), and Judging/ Perceiving (J/P). He found the following percentage of the population in each category:
                  Category ------- E/I -------- S/N ------- T/F -------- J/P
                  Overall---------75/25------75/25------55/45------50/50
                  Mensans------27/73------10/90------75/25------65/35

So it looks like the most common among MENSA members, at least in 1987, was INTJ

Most Intelligence tests are geared to theoretical knowledge and Analysis (iNtuition)

NFs tend to excell at EQ rather than IQ.
I supose at some point folks with High EQ will create their own (notso) stuffy organization....

      • As a supposedly rare INFP type, it makes sense that my views tend to be outside of mainstream, that I figure out my issues for myself, figure out my surroundings for myself and come to conclusions that those who like to accept what everybody knows may find unsettling. So, I started to wonder, what causes these different personality profiles? Nature/nurture I would suppose, but what kind? This is the point I have arrived at, so apparently a quest is in order. But what about balance? I suppose the variety of personality types in their various percentages of the population have to do with a balance of styles to address diverse functions. I tend to suppose that there is that blend of order and chaos as part of a larger order, a balancing act of many factors, like the dance of the solar system moving bodies arranging and rearranging in their relationships, an eternally changing order.

From what I've read of the MBTI Personality Temperament theory, INFPs being quite introspective, tend to communicate much more easily through written (or I suppose photographed, drawn, etc.) than oral expression. I know I do. When I try to converse, it's like I have to first translate what I hear from words to images, then translate my thots from images to words, which often takes too long to fit into the flow of the conversation. I have recently been reading about left/right/bicameral brain interaction. It seems that what I am doing is converting from left to right to left, speaking being leftbrain, my kind of understanding/thinking rightbrain.

I recently read, on an INFP group, of a study showing a strong correlation between INFP personality type and depression/bipolar diagnoses. Apparently a type study was done on people diagnosed with depression and bipolar mood disorder, and by far the largest percentage were INFP, even though we are a very small percentage of the overall population.

The immediate conclusion might be that the INFP type is somehow more unstable, or that there is something wrong with preferring one's own company to that of others, which leads to isolation, which leads to poor mood control.

It occurs to me, though, that it makes total sense that people would tend to become depressed, or to swing from delusions of grandeur to depression, if much of their (especially early) life experience has been that they are perceived as weird, not belonging, having different values, having different ways of self-expression, of being told to be more outgoing, to be more considerate of others who show no consideration to them. It reminds me of when homosexuality was considered a mental disorder. People used to talk about how homosexuals were depressed, suicidal, had mood swings. Well, duh! If you are constantly being told from a vast variety of sources that you have no appropriate place in the world, that your very being is wrong, try not to get depressed.

While those who are predominantly E and/or S tend to find their basic life-operating-system paradigms in the outer world, and therefore tend to share commonly accepted memetic webs upon which to build their experiences and understandings, we INs (and probably more so with the Feeling function rather than Thinking) tend to create our own operating systems based on internalized experience. Therefore, I believe INFPs are not differ in our understandings from the dominant social view, but also each of us differ from each other in our uniquely self-created ways of understanding our experiences. Thus, the INFP is particularly suited to out-of-the-paradigm inspiration such as in creative arts and alternative healing, ways of reframing what may be labeled problems into higher order solutions, or taking in a different perspective to see a different road. What do you feel?

I've taken this test several times in the past and sometimes I get INFP instead. Once I even got ENFJ. When I first took it in a college seminar in a theatre program, I took it with a group of fellow theatre people (mostly actors, and a few writers and directors). Practically everyone was INFP. All were INF's. Not only is astrology INF_, but so is acting/ theatre (it's a myth that most actors are extroverted).

Does anyone here know their enneagram type? It's another personality test-system. I'd be curious to see how your Myers-Briggs types correlate to the enneagram, and your sun/ moon/ rising. Here's a link to a sample test:

                  www.9types.com/rheti/home...actual.html

Like the Myers-Briggs, you may score as more than one type, or not always get the same answer, but it's still interesting. I usually get 4 with a 3 or 5 wing. Sometimes I also score highly as a 7. Like the Myers-Briggs, though, I've taken it a few times, and 4 is the most common. You have to average both tests out like that for yourselves.

With a North Node in the 6th house in Scorpio, I am all about transformation and it just so happens that life has called upon me to take my higher path. What is best about me... which is not me being a smarty-pants, but the quality of my heart... (El Saturn nearly killed me to get me to realize that point!)

i was looking into this awhile ago... i think uranus/aquarius seems to have something to do with the intuitive/perceptive process. prob'ly other signs, too, but i'm aquarius rising, uranus conj. sun... so i'm more familiar with that energy. i'm curious what you find here.
    • Yeah, I agree with you Exio. As I already posted here couple of months ago, I'm ENTP (sometimes ENFP) and have Taurus Sun and Leo Rising and although I have no planets in Aquarius (only south node on my descendant in Aquarius), Uranus is probably the most prominent planet in my chart, as it aspects nearly every other planet or point in my chart. It is in opposition with my Sun/Mercury/Chiron/Midheaven conjuction and it squares my Asc./Mars/Jupiter/N.node conjuction and it sextiles my Saturn. Uh... loads of tension, but I still love my Uranus energy.

    • Hi

I am an aquarian. - INTP

I was also intersested in the topic and came accross a pattern in many chart. Here are my observations.

I read about the theory of mercury epimethean and promethean quoted by Hilary and Unusual earlier. The Khaldea link is very illustrating. Also the TMA link given by unusual (www.mountainastrologer.com/stan...tml). another nice article is www.skyscript.co.uk/mercuryorbit.html.

As I found the theory to be intersting I went through charts of several achievers in regard to this factor. This specially included scientists and mathematicians. Many great scientists like Pascal, copernicus and Euler have a combination of slow moon and slow mercury. Considering this, I dont think it shoud be interperated as a slow mind as indicated in some articles.

After going through these charts I was able to relate the theory with theory of interaction styles and MBTI types. Information about this can be found at by searching interaction styles on wikipedia.org

I feel that we can relate as follows

Choleric - fast mercury and fast moon
Melancholic - fast moon slow mercury
Sanguine - slow moon fast mercury
phlegmatic - slow moon, slow mercury

Note that the adjectives Choleric, melanchonic etc. are not used in their uususl sense but with relation to theory of Interaction styles .

If we combine the information about the dominant element in the hart. For example a person who has mercury behind sun and a slow moon, and the dominant element is air is likely to show charaterstics of INTP etc.

In this regard research has been made. Please refer to this link www.trytel.com/~jfalt/Rev...mpered.html

      NT air
      NF water
      SJ earth
      SP fire

In this regard apart from dominant element sunsign may also be considered as an important factor.

i think i would prefer to be around people and to socialize and be the center of attention more if i didnt feel such fear of rejection and also such intuitiveness...being able to pick up on subtle details of what someone is feeling and not personally internalizing it causes a lot of problems. i think once i've figured out how to be braver and translate my intuitive feelings into more constructive areas..i will be out all night, most nights, living it up, never ending adventures. i have the need to soak up everything around me and experience so much

Shonna - just a thought. i can't help but think that there would be a bias towards introversion among online subjects, and that maybe other aspects of the meyers briggs types might also be affected too.

either way though, as long as there's a statistical correlation with sun sign, there's something going on
