Real quick:
what are you guys' thoughts on retrograde planets in the natal chart? I've been doing 'net search lately and came up with a variety of interpretations. I myself have Pluto, Neptune, Saturn and Uranus all retro in my birth chart. I've read that this may mean the planets' powers are lessened, that they are more internalized for the individual and that the true impact of the planet on the nature of the individual will only come when coerced out by events and experiences.
so let's get some other perspectives. what is your take on retrograde natal planets?

Re: Re-discovering the Retrogrades
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 8:28 PMhmm... i have pluto retro in 12th house. so does it mean this planet is internalized subconsciuosly...lol
i am really curious to hear what opinions, experiences, & interpretations people have on natal retro planets. I don't think weakened is the right description. i think influences internalized can be quite powerful for a person. maybe just weakened as how outsiders see it. -

Re: Re-discovering the Retrogrades
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 4:55 AMFunny you said that Natalie.... I was just getting a cup of coffee.... and said to myself.... It is the others who don't understand it...
I got 5 planets in Retrograde myself... Jupiter - Pluto.... so all them outer planets are internalized and between the 2nd - 5th houses.... go figure...
I think that the "Retro Cruse".... Is more from a lack of understanding.... from others. Cause alot of people arn't content with themselves.... and don't got the slightest clues on how to entertain themselves, or even focus on themselves. Too worried about making the next move persay....
Though it is good to have a blance I would think! Having no planets in Retrograde is an Oddball also.
Like what David said.... Closer to the Earth... More brillant and visable in the morning and in the starlit night sky. Really makes you wonder...

Re: Re-discovering the Retrogrades
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 8:34 PMI have Venus Retro in Aquarius and I hate the world. No one can live up to my expectations whatsoever. The only people I care for are those that try. I care for humanity as a whole and people who fucked me over...but I really shouldn't. I have a hard time moving on. I know who my friends are and I know who aren't my friends. Should I ever make it anywhere in the world I'll make sure they're taken care of. -

Re: Re-discovering the Retrogrades
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 9:59 PMSomething I've been doing. Use a progression chart in astro.com..Rx planets go backwards. See what aspects you get at points of your life, that mark special happenings good or bad...

Re: Re-discovering the Retrogrades
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 10:14 PM"I have Venus Retro in Aquarius and I hate the world."
Hahaha... so abrupt.
I have mercury, mars, jupiter, saturn, neptune, and uranus in retrograde. I've read that retrograde planets point to the energies of that planet being internalized, kept from expression, frustrated, and a lot of "second guessing" done by the native. i.e. retrograde mercury would mean a lot of thinking done concerning the self, or keeping your mouth shut when you feel you should speak, miscommunication, or having a lot of disruptions concerning travel like canceled plans or vacations that don't pan out.
Then I also read that when a progressed planet comes out of retrograde, it marks a sort of breath of fresh air concerning the planet that turns direct. My own personal theory with mercury retrograde, since it comes out of it fairly early in life via progression, is a difficultly communicating when your first learning to speak, or having your needs in very early life misunderstood until a child learns to use words... I'd have to check closer though... if the mercury turning direct via progression coincides with about the time it takes a baby to learn to talk. What do you all think?
Anyway, I'm also curious about what everyone has to say about retrograde planets... my natal mars in retrograde is going to turn direct by progression next year around my birthday... tee hee. -

Re: Re-discovering the Retrogrades
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 5:20 AMHummmm... Let me do a time warp... first planet to go direct in my chart was Pluto.
That was when I was 20...That would be about the time Pluto entered into my 4th house also by transit... so I did alot of traveling!
Heres another thing I ponder on.... to have Sun Trine Jupiter... Jupiter would more then likely be retrograde... and that supposely is a good aspect. Any planet trine to the Sun would be retrograde for the most part.
Steven Forest thinks of retrogrades as many lifetime lessions... opposed to just one lifetime... as the nodes are mostly retrograde most of the time, because it takes more then just one lifetime to master that one.

Re: Re-discovering the Retrogrades
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 10:34 PMMy retrogrades and my understanding of them so far:
jupiter: learn how to be happy with what ever/ who ever I have and make the most of it instead of trying to have a lot and get what I want
saturn: hold myself to my own high standards to stay beyond the reach of "the law" or other forms of authoritative criticism and conformity
pluto: total inner transformations that do not seem visible on the outside and take everyone by total surprise-like a pheonix rising out of ashes
uranus: rebelling against convention and majority rule and social control while complying with official hierarchy (via saturn above)
As you can see, I really do see it as you said...internalized.
But I do not think that the internalization automatically leads to a weakening effect. I would say that instead it leads to more of a "outer appearance of weakness" in most cases. In other cases it seems to amplify the appearance of the planet's effect in the eyes of others.
I think my jupiter, pluto and uranus seem weakened to others and they are usually quite surprised and at times appalled (especially when they meet the true face of my uranus ewwwww) when they see how strong the influence is.
In the case of saturn, though, I think that the internalizing of structure the way I do it might make its effect appear even stronger? -

good motto for saturn retrograde then?

Thu, October 4, 2007 - 4:13 AMHi all
I liked the anlysis by pi314 and experience the same for jupiter, saturn and pluto. i agree that internalization does not mean weakening. i found a different perspective on retrogrades on this site lessons.astrology.com/ . it is a sort of quantitative analysis.
You will find the required informationa t the link Retrogrades under Beginner's astrology. infact the whole tutorial is very nice -

Re: Re-discovering the Retrogrades
Thu, October 4, 2007 - 7:32 AMhow about this..An energy rubbed in...
At time of birth if a planet is Rx (retro) then soon after birth it goes direct, then passes over you birth placement again.... an immediate Return, before it had a full cycle...

Wed, October 3, 2007 - 4:27 PMI've got Mercury (7th/Virgo), Saturn (12th/Capricorn), Uranus (11th/Capricorn), and Neptune (11th/Capricorn) all retrograde. I agree with that statement - 'the planets' powers are lessened, that they are more internalized for the individual and that the true impact of the planet on the nature of the individual will only come when coerced out by events and experiences.'

Re: Re-discovering the Retrogrades
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 11:04 PMLet's see,
I have jupiter to pluto retro - between 2nd to 5th houses. I can feel jupiter alot in the things I do. Neptune retro is very much apparent with alot of music involved inside me. sometimes i feel my entire being is made up only of music and to sustain this projection of a physical body is quite a task!
my saturn is actually stationary going direct even though in astro.com, it states 'r'. Pluto seems too generational to feel anything much of a personal retrograde influence unless it is strongly aspected or a powerful point in one's chart, like pluto conjunct sun/asc. Pluto retrograde can point to the activities generated by the generation..
I don't think the influence of the planets are lessened but they are most definitely internalised. The way I see it, retrograde influences can be observed in your actions. Especially if you pay more attention to transiting retro planets, that would give one a better understand of how a natal reto planet would work. That's how I've been trying to understand them anyway.
My virgoan soul sister has all her planets direct. Only Chiron is retrograde and north node. She is one of wisest people I've ever known. This is one person who has managed to constantly fine tune her awareness and live in a way that expresses the most positive things about herself.
but what I find intriguing in her all direct chart is that her Uranus is in her 12th house in scorpio, opp her chiron in taurus with a 5* orb. I feel her entire being - psyche, soul and emotions - are centred between her Uranus and rChiron.
