In the past couple of days the two champions of the two top female sports have retired.
Justine Henin Hardenne (tennis) and Annika Sorenstam (Golf).
These two sports are significant for women as far as parity with their male counterparts in popularity and respect (and earnings too).
I do not have these athletes’ individual charts but thought it interesting as an obvious universal signal nonetheless.
I use the Sidereal zodiac and there have recently been major shift using that stellar Zodiac. Of note, the Nodes have changed from the Leo/Aquarius axis to the Cancer / Capricorn axis AND Mars is now also in Cancer (joined the South Node) after being in Sidereal Gemini from the end of September 07 until the end of April 08.
So, what do these things say?
Lets look at the current transits. Well first of all the strong emphasis on the sign of Leo has let up (Leo is related to sports / games and athletics in general) and shifted to Cancer. Saturn and the South Node had occupied Leo for the previous 1.5 years - a time when both women gained much notoriety and really sealed their legacies as champions. Currently though Cancer holds Mars (debilitated) and the South Node - bringing more ACTION to that area of life.
It is not hard to see how these two women may wish to honor more of the softer side of life, a more yin approach now with the Nodes in this most feminine axis. Mars also here shows the sudden and unpredictable actions that make it so. Also, Jupiter is now retrograde (a planet of children, teachings, higher purposes). One can imagine these wealthy, successful women may wish to exercise their options - and that might not include chasing a ball around and competing for prizes they have already won.
Especially with Ms Henin Hardenne who is only 25, one can easily imagine a return to sport once the South node goes into Gemini in late 2009 - but at that time there will likely be more of an emphasis on fun and enjoyment.
Ms. Henin Hardenne recently had a reconciliation with her birth family (middle / end of last year) - but also a painful divporce. The separation from her family had been the source of many personal traumas in her life. Those who know her closest report that tennis was really her escape from family trouble and her main source of identity.
These announcements happened as the Moon passed over Saturn in Sidereal Leo the last couple of days.
In a larger sense, in the aftermath of the Saturn/South Node conjunction in Leo I am still marveling quite a bit at how the world of sports has been affected. I had predicted that this transit would "Dethrone" or at least "Expose" the kings of the world who were arrogant, and politically, that is so. But in sport it has been dramatic. Against the backdrop of steroid scandals and other things, since november 2006 many of THE BIGGEST names in every sport have been COMPLETELY humiliated, even imprisoned. Mike Vick, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Marion Jones, Bill Bellichick. There are more, especially the list of baseball sluggers (Mcgwire, Sosa, Palmeiro).
BTW - The indictment against Mr. Bonds was also intensified yesterday to include 15 counts.
best wishes,
