Ceres, Pallus, Vesta, Pholus?

topic posted Mon, February 6, 2006 - 4:06 PM by  Paul
I see these objects listed on charts sometimes - could someone give me a basic explanation for what they represent?

I'm a little skeptical of the asteroids aside from chiron becuase I'm not entirely sure that they're all that meaningful - or if they're worth investing time into researching. Nonetheless, it couldn't hurt.

Discuss.

  • me new too to this & much more But what I've gathered from th infuences said about lilith & juno has hit a strong "note". I'd like that info also.
    • Pallus? Is that Pallas Athene with a strap-on?
Just kidding. The various asteroids, black moons and fixstars can add a whole 'nother layer of info to the chart. I read some informative articles about them in www.mountainastrologer.com, and have a great book about Pholus by Robert von Heeren, alas it's in german. Barbara Hand Clow has a lot to say about Chiron, and also Melanie Reinhard. Whether or not asteroids work for you probably depends where they fall in your chart. If you are a Gemini or mercurial inclined you will probably try out all different kinds of systems, and combine a few of them as the spirit moves you. If you are less experimental inclined you might stick to the tried and true.
In my case I have a stellium in the third, venus in aquarius conjunct chiron, moon in gemini conjunct juno and vesta conjuct the dsc... unlikely to stick to the tried and true

I know these are easier to understand if you associate and read about mythology since they are associated with gods - goddesses.

    Pallas athenea.... the warrior
    Ceres... the nutruring mother
    Vesta.... the hight priestess

    Some summed up information:

Pallas is both the Warrior Woman and the Peaceful General, representing strength and wisdom. Following her example, we find our inner courage and strength and know that we will survive life's battles. Our confidence in our abilities and our level of physical coordination depend in part upon this asteroid's position in our birth charts.

The Ceres asteroid represents the rhythms in a woman's procreation cycles. In her role as mother, the Ceres woman treasures family heirlooms. The biology of life cycles and female passages are within Ceres's domain.

Vesta rules devotion, sexuality and health. Known as The Virgin and The Sister, Vesta represents the powerful woman who sees beyond the scope of herself. Her motivation is the goodness and fulfillment of a greater cause -- an uplifting of the soul or the education of a generation.

For more insight yo may go to goddess.astrology.com/ there you´ll find some info about mythology. Also more info about juno and the feminine planets moon, venus and neptune.

Have to look up for Pholus....
  • I've been using the four major asteroids for about ten years with pretty good effect but this has come after many astrology readings, ongoing study of mythology and a hefty dose of creative thought. Here are some snapshots of what I see in the four major asteroids (there is much more but this shall suffice for now):

    VESTA.
Based in the myth of the Vestal Virgins, who were eductaed priestesses assigned to protect the sacred fires of the Temple of Hestia, goddess of the hearth. I see astrological Vesta as an indicator of how we experience the sacred in our lives and where that "flame" needs protection.

    PALLAS.
Also called Athena, the warrior priestess, whose shield is emblemized with the image of the prophetess Medusa whose powers of premonition guided Pallas in her battlefield victories. I see astrological Pallas as an indicator of a conscious fighting spirit. Unlike natal Mars, which can fight or act combatively for the sake of fighting itself, Pallas represents the wisdom of what is worth fighting for in our lives.

    CERES
Also called Demeter. The mother of the maiden Persephone (or Kore) had to negotiate with Lord Pluto (or Hades), after he abducted her daughter as his underworld child bride, to allow Perspephone to be free for six months of the year and six months in the underworld. Demeter embodies the tough mother love of Kali, the blood rites of menses and a death/rebirth portal for men. I see astrological Ceres as an indicator of matriarchal initiation rites, where and how the Dark Feminine can be experienced.

JUNO; the internal marriage contract (see thread on "Juno; what are you married to?" in this tribe): astronuts.tribe.net/thread/d...5c2f133d1
    • Thanks Sherpa, I appreciate your input on this subject.
      • Hello Paul

I spent quite a bit of time studying the four Goddesses Asteroids and even gave a workshop on them once. I mainly based my work on Demetra George's book "The Asteroid Goddesses" and my own experience in readings.

Prior to using the four Asteroids in Astrology, we only had two planets that were feminine (Moon and Venus, if we can call the Moon a planet but you understand what I mean!) and these were pretty "narrow" aspects of the feminine (loosely mother/unconscious/emotions and love/beauty/esthetics).

With the new "planets" we get a much more complex picture of the feminine and it goes thus:

The Moon is the first level of differenciation from the masculine sun, therefore the first manifestation of the feminine (passive reflective light as opposed to active radiating light). Then at the center of the Moon energy, Venus arises as the first outer emanation/archetype of the feminine and keeps all its attributes while around her and in each direction stands one of the Asteroid Goddesses:

Vesta in the East (Ascendant) representing the sister emanation of the feminine and the principle of focus and commitment as well as where and how we can transcend our desire and passion and channel them in spiritual devotional work.

Pallas Athene in the North (MC) representing the daughter emanation of the feminine and the principle of creative intelligence as well as where and how we embark on quests and visionary work.

Juno in the West (Descendant) representing the wife/consort emanation of the feminine and the principle of relatedness as well as where and how we enter into close relationships and manifest the Sacred Conjunctio/Marriage in our life (also what basic needs must be met in order to be happy in them!)

Ceres in the South (IC) representing the mother emanation and the principle of unconditional love as well as where and how we receive and later give nurturing... what does being nurtured and nurturing others mean and look like to us?

Another interesting thing to note about the four Goddess Asteroids is that they mostly occupy the space between Mars and Jupiter and thus form a bridge between the personal and the social planets... the interpersonal "planets" as it were.

I have found them so accurate and helpful that they have become great tools in justifying Ascendants for those who are not sure of their time of birth. I only need to ask a few questions to know if I have them in the right houses or not!

This is a really brief overview of them and I hope it has been helpful. I do recommend reading Demetra's book and giving the Goddesses a chance! After all they also live in men the same whay that the "male" planets manifest in women...

    Hi Paul,
I, too, highly recommend Demetra's book "Asteroid Goddesses". You might also like her book "Finding Your Way Through the Dark". Good stuff on Pluto, 12th house, moon phases, etc.

    peace,

  • 1. I have links to some excellent sites for Ceres, Pallas, Juno and Vesta on this page:
    www.zanestein.com/page4a.htm

    2. Pholus is a Centaur, the first one discovered after Chiron, and we have been studying it since it was found in 1992. I have a lot of info on this body on my website. Here is a page just about Pholus:
    www.zanestein.com/pholus.htm
    • Great post, excellent input.

I'm off to it...the study leading to location of my Tribe of Centaurs, and all.

      The synapses are firing.

Apoptosis (Pholus/1992 simultateous discovery) it's there right along side hypertrophy, atrophy, etc., in basic college anatomy, we covered this today!
  • I see the asteroids as the four faces of the female. Ceres, the mother archetype, Vesta the sister, Athena, the warrior/healer/father's daughter (smart girl) and Juno as the wife.

Whether you are a man or a woman, these energies show up in your chart. Ceres, how your nurture yourself and how you were mothered (with bad aspects, indicates eating disorders), Vesta (your sisterhood or spiritual tribe), Athena (where you're brilliant or have a cause to fight) and Juno (what you're married to). In transit, Vesta may show an actual move (of home or apartment), while Juno will indicate partnering or "divorce" activity.

I'm not familiar with Pholus so can't comment there.

Since the majority of traditional planets have a male bent (except for Moon, Venus and Neptune) these asteroids are a welcome addition, since we're entering new goddess territory.

    Hope this helps!

  • The centaurs have received detailed delineations in sigil magick, love, and everything. Most interesting 2012 centaur 1994 TA which Juan calls Pylenor. We worked on this oe for years. Pholus in the 12 houses is available for free on USENET groups.google.com

Obama has a typical Chariklo Chiron split... For centaurs go to USENET nd type the appropriate position, e.g. Asbolus in Lupus.

    • Juno is obsolete for the past 20 years, but Juno-centric horoscopes are made in order toe.g. pinpoint that Venus in Cygnusthat reveals the true nature of the horoscope. See also planetocntric astrology by the same author.

The real deal are the Dwarf Planets in the 7th House, all major H < 5 dwarf planets in the real, that is Cartesian, 7th house.
