That's a tough one. Venus is both my "final dispositor" and my "planet of orientation" and, of course, in it's rulership. Uranus is my "ruling planet" and conjunct Sun. Pluto is the ruler of my sun sign, "at home", and conjunct Venus. Neptune is a singleton twice over.

According to Astrodienst, the Sun is my strongest planet, followed by Pluto, Uranus, Venus. So we'll go with those, although I don't necessarily believe that any planet is any "stronger" than the other... they're just where they are.

Sun... I believe in play, happiness, joy, expression.

Pluto... I'm an asshole, don't really care if I make you feel "uncomfortable", would rather get to the absolute truth.

Uranus... I give a shit. I want to see people live to their potential and I want to see that potential play out in the world at large. I have extreme respect for the individual. I believe strongly in experimentation and freedom to experiment. I think that mutation is the key to evolution.

Venus... I believe in balance and beauty. I like grace. I like other people and know that I'm tied to them. I always want to see the other side of the coin.

Well, i say Mars and Pluto. Both are my chart rulers, because of my Scorpio rising, and both are in Scorpio. Plus, Mars is classically my final dispositor, and Pluto would be my modern one. With mars, i can be viciously brutal, whether it be verbally or physically, i never back down. Passion and fire is my core, and because of Mars in Scorpio, i WILL kill myself rather than submit to anyone. With pluto, i'm intense, it's a different kind of intensity... emotional, and kind of negative in a way, and dispite my Scorpio rising, it's not something you sense right away. It's not intentional, but i think i only expose my "intensity" to those closest to me. Plus, mind-fucking people you've just met is rude, i had to learn to control that! I think Pluto makes me harbor vengence, and war, all too much. On the plus side, Pluto gives me a love for all things "dark", all the sad qualites of human nature fascinate me, the good tends to bore me. All in all, Pluto and Mars combined gives me all those ill-fated "Dark" Scorpio qualites. Needless to say, i'm NOT an easy person to get along with! LOL! :)

BY FAR Pluto. Locomotive chart with PLuto as the leading planet. Its not even close how powerful Pluto is in my chart. It's on the cusp of my 12/1st house conjunct my Scorpio ASC. I've been told im a very intimidating person at times and I "feel" everything and everyone around me so deeply. My whole demeanor is very Plutonic. I communicate in quick but powerful words, listen to very deep music, and have a stare that reads and processes anything that desire and even things that I don't. Wear alot of dark colors and I like to keep a "low key" or behind the scenes approach. As far as dealing with life's lessons, I look at so called bad experiences as good experiences. I have learned that everything that happens molds who you are and you should be glad for everything that happens to you because it prepares you for future situations.

Mercury is the second most powerful planet in my chart. It resides in my 8th house. This is the extroverted side of me. The talkative side, and the friendly side. The jokester and the humorous side of my nature. It helps me block some of that Pluto ridicoulousness out of the way. Without the strength of this planet in my chart, i would be an unpleasant person to be around. I think this is where i get my Business/Financial oriented mindset as well as my investigative nature. I always have to know more about everything. I hate not knowing things and secrets that are held from me. I also attain this to my philosophical mind as well. Considering I have Moon, Venus, and Mercury in Gemini also shows the prevalence of Mercury in my personality.
    • Myzil

I would consider Pluto and Mercury are the key planets in my chart, Uranus also as its a singleton is opposite my sun and mercury and disposits my Moon.

I notice that you also have an 8H Mercury Mercury which is opposition Uranus. Do you think this describes you well at all? Bearing in mind that Mercury/Uranus is involved in your T-Square.
I notice you mention Pluto being powerful, whilst I don't doubt that for a moment, I'd wonder whether Mars is equally powerful in your chart, after all it IS the 'old' chart ruler of your chart.
      • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart? powerful

        Wed, September 30, 2009 - 11:32 AM
Definetely. I agree that Mars has a strong hold on my personality as well. It's more on an internal basis though. I've had to deal with the anger it presribes in the tsquare in my chart. But I hav dealt with it. Mainly using my Pluto and Mercury energy toward my problems. So yes, I do believe that my tsquare has a significant influence on me. As far as the opposition between Mercury and Uranus, this I'd probably the one of the hardest aspests that I have. I had problems with this aspect more so in my high school years, and recently I have been able to handle it.

Sense Mars does have alot of aspects connecting to it, u can make the arguement that it has a pretty high affect on me as well.

Like you, Lady Saber, I have a strong Mars in dignity in the 10th (mine Aries, yours Scorpio). I think we tend to be strong, fiery, independent women. We also have a detrimented Venus conjunct Mars. I'm not sure how your Scorpio Venus works for you, but I've heard that Venus in Aries feel they are "special" and require an independence from others unless they feel they've accomplished something. I don't know if I think I'm special, but I don't feel I've accomplished what I want out of life yet. My Mars has a trine to Neptune, which is supposed to give a certain mystique and a deep emotional understanding of people. It can confer extreme esthetic, emotional, and spiritual refinement. I haven't gotten to that point yet. Mars in dignity in the 10th indicates someone who has the strength and the drive to achieve success. The conjunction to Venus makes me sacrifice my love life for my goals, I think. I tend to deny any romantic love, and sort of like to deprive myself of things in general, I've noticed. Like sometimes I will not eat, or watch TV or listen to music for many days... I haven't figured out this deprivation chamber thing I do, and it may be related to the square to Jupiter, but it's easy for me to do stuff like that. I am also a vegan, so I deprive myself of certain food types. Most specifically, I may be an anomaly in that I am non-sexual, but have very sexual aspects and am considered attractive and attracted to the opposite sex.

Saturn is my strongest planet, mercury a close second.

Growing up I was told I'm too young to be as jaded as I am, and I'm still getting that. I wonder when I'll be old enough to be jaded, lol. My Aquarian ascendant in a wide orbit trine to my Libra Saturn makes it more of an airy, quirky sort of Saturn thing. I appreciate discipline, solitude, and sorrow as much as I like joy and mirth. Life changes are fine with me; I usually roll with the proverbial punches pretty well. All my close friends are usually 5-20 years older than me, and friends from my own generation don't tend to last.

can i bend the rules and say chiron?! It's the part of my chart I feel most strongly, and in a negative way. If that's not allowed, then i'm actually not too sure, although i'll hazard a guess at the 'sun'.

The Pullen D. thing on astro.com - i never knew it was there! Another little find :) Well, according to that, Gemini is the most powerful sign in my chart, with venus being the most powerful planet, followed by the sun, then mercury. Will have to have a think about this - i'm a bit discombobulated now.
  • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

According to the Pullen Delineation at Astro.com, Venus is the strongest planet, followed by the Sun, then Pluto.

Venus has shaped my personality in the sense that yeah, all the stuff you read about the Venus-Libra appreciation of beauty, the arts and fairness is definitely true, it definitely rings true to my own life experiences and how my mind works.
  • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

Mercury is my chart ruler and dominant planet. Communication is definitely a prime consideration of mine and always has been, even when I have failed miserably at it. <grin>
    • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

      Wed, September 30, 2009 - 11:32 AM
I was unaware of this Pullen thing, so I checked it out. No surprise that Mercury is the dominant planet, and not much of a surprise that the Sun is next, but what did surprise me was that Neptune, of all planets, would be the third most influential in my chart. Neptune?

As for signs, I was somewhat surprised by this order ~ Leo, Pisces, Virgo. It is true, though, that Pisces is barely more significant than Virgo, but I would have figured that the Virgoan influence is head and shoulders beyond the Piscean influence, but apparently not.

      Interesting.
      • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

        Wed, September 30, 2009 - 12:05 PM
Huh... That Pullen thingies are tools I hadn't really looked at, and I'm not sure I used the same one, but it has my top ranked planets as Pluto, then Mercury, then Neptune. And the Moon is very low.

I'm not sure I agree entirely with how it calculates the influence of signs, in particular, though, because it has Gemini as one of my least influential, and, with Gemini as my Ascendant, I feel it pretty strongly. (I was surprised it has my top signs as as Scorpio/Pisces/Capricorn [especially surprised about Capricorn] with Taurus lagging just behind as #4).

I do, though, think that Pluto, Mercury, and Neptune are strong forces in my chart. I would agree with that.
  • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

    Wed, September 30, 2009 - 9:08 AM
My Moon was what drew me into astrology. I identify pretty strongly with it, but who with a Scorpio Moon doesn't? I'm also just terribly enchanted with the moon, itself. Then again, maybe I'm feeling Pluto, there, to some extent (especially since it forms perhaps my tightest aspect, with an opposition to my Sun). I'm sure Venus is up there, too. Or Mercury... It's really hard to say! I keep wanting to cite half my planets. The only two I feel aren't as strong as I'd like are Uranus and Saturn.
  • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

    Wed, September 30, 2009 - 10:24 AM
hmmm strongest because I feel its presence in my life more significantly than other planets--venus and uranus. Venus is in taurus in the 12th house. Uranus is on the 7th / 8th house cusp in sagittarius.

Also, while I do have a pretty strong mars--capricorn in the 8th, I feel more connected to venus and uranus. I think my connection to venus is strengthened by my taurus rising. My connection to uranus is strengthened by my exact moon opposition. I think my life is marked by significant events involving sudden change--esp. moments of (perceived or actual) abandonment, another person suddenly and unexpectedly changing their feelings toward me / me doing the same, etc. I think my personality and entire life path has been shaped by my attraction toward helping others / giving of my time, money, helping various causes, volunteering--(12th house venus in taurus).
    • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

      Thu, October 1, 2009 - 12:00 PM
I'm not sure this is even important...I think every planet has its relevance in certain issues, and should not be tossed aside just because it's not on the "my chart's most influential planets" list...

Besides, like others have mentioned, it's all relative. Different astrologers have different methods for finding your most important planet..according to astro.com, I should take Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, and Neptune as my most important planets, since Neptune and Saturn are tightly conjunct one another, and also my final dispositors, while Mercury and Jupiter are the most influential, "because" Jupiter tightly conjuncts my Moon and Mars, all in 0 degree Gemini, while in the 9th house.

Another site doesn't even mention these, in a free natal report I had made. They list Black Moon Lilith as my number one influence, because it is in the 1st house, and trines my Moon(apparently, aspects to the luminaries make a planet shoot up in rank quite a bit), while listing Venus my second influence, due to its conjunction to the DC, and the Sun, also due to its conjunction to the DC.

And my opinion on the whole matter is that whichever planet holds more "stock" in my natal chart is pretty irrelevant to a useful, beneficial application of astrology on my life-as a whole, as well as in day to day matters. It only helps in getting the general "wiring" of a person's psychological make-up. So, in that virtue, I'd have to name Mercury and Neptune my greatest influences and my overall energy-conformation.
      • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

        Thu, October 1, 2009 - 12:32 PM

I don't know why they would include Black Moon Lilith.
it's not even a planet. it's not even an object.
it's just the lunar apogee, the point of the moon's orbit furthest from the Earth.
the lunar perigree/apogee are an axis.

I have Sun conjunct true Black Moon Liilith with 22 minutes of arc myself

good points about the relative strength of planets.

the discovery of Pluto's fellow transneptunians open the can of worms about the planetary strength relevance of Pluto. The other transneptunians could be relevant in the strength factor. There are over thousand transneptunians discovered.

With my Sun conjunct Ixion with 5 minutes of arc, and trine my Moon with 2'14 orb. Maybe Ixion is my strongest planet. With it being a plutino, it's astronomically very similar to Pluto. Therefore,it should very astrologically similar to Pluto.

my Haumea conjunct Ascendant in 1st house with 2'12 orb and square Midheaven with 2 minutes of arc could be my strongest planet too.

also....if you use Chiron in regards to planetary strength, then what about its fellow centaurs? There are over a dozen with names......over 60 in all.

          Hey everyone,

I am wondering if depending on your transits can the strongest planet switch from one to the other? Is one planet always going to stand out? I think Neptune is strong in my chart especially since it is a fire singleton BUT I feel the rising leo which would make my sun and since it is in cancer making my moon strong and my mercury gemini is strong since it is in its own sign so I am thinking I can switch from one day to the other can anyone look at my chart and tell me what they think between:

Rising Sign=Sun in (Cancer) Moon; Mercury and Neptune...I am thinking all 4 because I feel they all work together.

            Fri, October 2, 2009 - 4:33 AM
By most accounts Pluto would be the strongest. Its tightly conjunct the ascendant in the 1st and forms a T-square with the Sun and Moon. However, The Moon is conjunct Jupiter and the MC, is aspected by every major planet, both Nodes and is the apex of the Sun-Moon-Pluto T-square.

I have had dramatic ups and downs, mostly due to my volatile temperment and defiant attitude. I go through periods where I am overtly probing, meddling and downright driven to expose and exploit ......and others where I am more reserved, observant, studious and inactive. Like a box of chocolates........

Perhaps when transitting Pluto in Cap moves past the 10th dedgree and closer to my Natal Moon's degree , acting as the missing link for a Grand Cross.........I'll wake the dead

astro.com tells me that my strongest planets are Venus then closely behind are the Sun and Neptune.

My plants are Pisces then Libra. I don't think the third was that close, but I can't remember.
    • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

      Sat, October 3, 2009 - 7:07 PM
I was way off........ It was Venus (106.0) way far ahead then followed by Mercury (57.5), Sun (55.0) and Neptune (53.5).
      • Re: What's the strongest planet in your chart?

        Sun, October 4, 2009 - 9:15 AM
I think there are some things that astro.com probaby doesn't factor in like exaltation, mutual reception, midpoints - things like that.
Does anyone know how they calculate the strength of planets on astro.com? I see that they include aspects in the calculation in some way but there is also that component of "position". I'm not totally sure what that means.

Anyway - my feeling that I swear by always is that uranus has a dominating effect on my chart. It is third according to astro.com. Uranus is followed by sun and moon but uranus=sun/moon midpoint in my chart. I agree that the moon is a very strong influence but I am surprised to see the sun there.
        Moon is in cancer
        Uranus is in scorpio
Sun is afflicted by neptune and saturn and it is on the Snode. Maybe its the vacuum in the place of where the sun should be in my life that seems to be a strong influence or something like that.

I did a chart for someone on astro.com and he's a Pisces. Pretty much all his personal planets are in Aries and the majority of his planets are in the 11th house.

          Pullen said this

          1. Uranus/2. Mercury/3. Mars
          1. Virgo/2. Pisces/3. Aquarius/4. Scorpio/5. Aries

Looked at your chart, f0gd0g, and I'd say the Sun is your strongest planet: it's in his sign, Leo, and sits at a comfortable midpoint between Saturn and Uranus.

I just took a guess based on a quick look at your chart. A Leo Sun with such dark powerhouses supporting it in such a beneficial way is pretty hard to ignore. You probably have a lot of artistic skill and can harmonize between old people's ideas and young people's ideas with strikingly-original works. That's not too nitty-gritty an assessment at all, but that's what immediately caught my eye. You can look at your chart through so many lenses and see different angles come to life. I just threw caution to the wind and gave you my beetle-headed opinion...

Sarah, nothing jumps out at me like it did for f0gd0g, and if I knew astro.com better I could probably point you in the right direction. I can't seem to download the programs Teresa has recommended, but using Astro123 would probably give you a better answer than I could come up with. My old Kepler program doesn't have a planetary strength calculator, and your chart has more subtle dynamics going on that would take me hours of speculation to come up with a good guess. I'm tempted to say Saturn is your strongest planet, but my confidence for that is lacking.

Ok so I found it according to astro my strongest sign is gemini (mercury), cancer and then libra....I honestly don't feel the whole cancer vibe, interesting though that Gemini is the strongest ;)

Ok so I looked again at astro using the pullen chart and my strongest PLANET is uranus!! Totally makes sense! I think like an aquarius all the time especially the older I have become and the more I understand myself. I find that my views are not the "norm" and I tend to not conform...I am a free thinker, my sun is the 2nd strongest planet so Cancer is still a theme but I would say leo is too since it is my ascendant...

                      this is all so fascinating!

                        I really never woulda guessed..

                        67.68 Pluto, 1st house.

                        48.76 Uranus
                        48.35 Moon
                        43.99 Mercury

Both the Pullen chart and the astro123 said Pluto. I would have thought Moon, Uranus,or Venus, so my guesses weren't too far off, Moon is exalted and has lots of soft aspects, Venus is exalted but has it's share of harder aspects. Pluto? I still don't get why Pluto is so much stronger.

In the not too near future, T Pluto will be conj N Capricorn Mercury/ Moon/ Pluto Grand Trine. Will be interesting to see what that will bring...

Downloaded astro123 and some of the others too..off to play! OMG cool stuff! Thanks Theresa!

using the "Small Natal Chart Wheel, Pullen Style" option, I see the Planets listed at the right hand side. There are + or - numbers beside the planets. These, if I am not mistaken, are the strength indicators. (someone please correct me if I am wrong)

I am glad you asked, because I see that on the Pullen wheel, Pluto is still strongest, followed by Chiron, then Moon, then Mercury and Neptune are tied. Perhaps the astro123 does not include Chiron? What would it indicate to have pluto and Chiron as the "strongest planets"?

    Interesting thread :))
I figured mine out (at astro.com) and my strongest planet is Neptune. And my strongest sign is Pisces (not surprisingly since my Sun, Mercury, and Venus are in Pisces). Here's my planet breakdown-

    1.Pisces
    2.Capricorn
    3.Gemini
    4.Sagittarius
    5.Scorpio
    6.Libra
    7.Aquarius
    8.Taurus
    9.Aries
    10.Virgo
    11.Cancer
    12.Leo

In honor of signing up to the Tribe, I decided to write an article on:

How to determine the strongest planet(s) in a chart

and posted it at this address www.soulhealing.com/strength.htm

I invite you all to read it, and all of my free Western and Vedic tutorials on my website:

I hope the article serves you.

That is a very interesting article, Hank!

It made me think a lot about my sun which is in H10 square to neptune (sun is pisces), on the SNode, in a grand water (actually at what might be the focal point of a grand water kite) trine with moon and uranus, opposite saturn, on the SNode ... basically lots of strength and weakness all at once.
Your article makes me look again at saturn which is almost exactly square my ascendant, retrograde, and loosely opposite sun and conjunct Nnode

Your discussion brings up some interesting questions. Could there be a slight difference in some cases between the strongest planet and the most influential planet?
There also might be slightly different meanings between the planet with the potential to have the most impressive moments of strength and the planet which is overall the most consistently reliable and grounding/stable/supporting in a person's life. The planets with potential for both great strength and weakness might reach the highest heights of strengthbut still - on average over time - not be the strongest over all.

It depends a little on how you look at it and what one means when they say "strongest planet in your chart" I think.

I have a question - what about planets that are aspecting the majority of a chart in a symmetric pattern. I noticed that you mentioned the planets that are over 60 degrees away from others as being strong, do you think planets that land close to many overlapping midpoints might similarly be strong or not really?

I'm wondering if this would be a case of increased influence but not necessarily increased strength - but that is assuming that there is a difference between the meaning of the two.

And - how would we define strength?
From your article I got the idea of strength meaning possibly that in a competition between influences the stronger planet would win. But now strength and influence seem to have the same meaning again.

I definitely don't have it figured out but your article brings up a lot to think about!
      Thanks for your contribution!
