is there a way to figure out based from your chart, another chart that would be a perfect compatibility match? i know you can test your chart with someone else's, but i've always been curious to know what exactly i would be most compatible with...just for shits and giggles. that would be awesome if you could enter your chart into some kind of system that would generate the most ideal, perfect compatible chart with yours.

Re: finding out perfect compatibility
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 9:53 AMI don't think there is perfect compatibility. How would relationships serve us to learn and grow and overcome difficulties on the physical plane if they were perfect?
BUT, I think it is a fun exercise to create your "perfect" partner's chart.
Here is the formula I use:
Ascendant - either opposite your Ascendant or the same element as your Ascendant. Avoid Rising signs that are 2nd, 6th, 8th, or 12th from yours.
Moon - same as your Sun sign or opposite your Sun sign, or of the same element. Also, their Moon should be opposite or same element as your Moon. This is where it gets tricky, and whether it can be perfect or not depends on your own Sun/Moon relationship. If you can't get it perfect, than at least don't get their Moon 2nd, 6th, 8th, or 12th from your Sun or Moon.
Sun - same in reverse. Their Sun should be in the same sign or opposite, or in the same element as your Moon. Sun/Sun relationship does not matter as much.
Other Planets - then you want to try to get each planet in the chart to be compatible (same sign, opposite, or same element). Anything that's 2nd, 6th, 8th, or 12th from each other will cause some conflict (but who says some conflict is bad?). Some planets in the same sign (like the Sun) might cause problems too.
The other thing I look at is a factor unique to Vedic astrology. It is the kuta system, which evaluates the compatibility between the two nakshatras (stars) of the Moon. Anything over 20 is considered good for marriage. You need to understand the kuta factors or get a book or software program that can calculate it for you. Dennis Harness' book on the Nakshatras lists the kuta points between different nakshatras. Most Vedic astrology will do it. In India, this is seen as the most important factor, which trumps all others.
I once did exactly what you are talking about. I drew up a chart of my ideal mate. That was a long time ago, and I honestly can't remember what it was. But I know that my understanding of astrology has evolved since then, so I'm sure it wasn't as perfect as I might of thought. Be careful what you wish for! Sometimes we just don't know what's best for us, only god knows that, and it's best just to trust the secret workings of the universe when it comes to relationships. If something feels right, that's a good sign.
My astrological compatibility with my partner of 3+ years is pretty good, but not perfect. We have opposite Ascendants (Cancer/Capricorn), but our Sun/Moon dynamic is less than perfect. Our Suns are in the same element (Cancer/Pisces), which is good. But his Sun is 12th from my Aries Moon, and my Moon is 12th from his Taurus Moon. However, between our two charts most other planets are either in the same element or opposite each other (Mercury = Leo/Aquarius, Venus = Gemini/Aquarius, Mars = Leo/Aries). The only bad compatibility is Jupiter (Capricorn/Leo), which would show some divergence and conflict around belief systems and philosophy, though to be honest that hasn't really been a problem. Our kuta score according to Vedic astrology is 20 - just under the wire! So, no it's not perfect, and we've had our share of turbulence, but overall it's been the smoothest and most supportive relationship I've ever had and I have no desire to leave it.
I think that when it comes to relationships, aside from something that's really abusive and unhealthy, you have to appreciate the good where you find it, and let go of your judgments about all the imperfections. Relationships are never perfect, and always represent a challenge to us, and that's what they're for. If you have love and companionship and mutual respect, in whatever form, embrace it!

Tue, October 2, 2007 - 12:52 PMDavid, WOW thank you for all that information!
I am now going to go torture myself and look up my boyfriends chart with mine - I know some of the stuff you talked about but i am a little iffy on the 6th, 8th 12th distance stuff. My moon is in Pisces and his is Libra - in some books they say we are opposite moons but I know we are not - I am at the end of Pisces tho and he's at the beginning of Libra.....I find we either are extremely accomodating of each other OR I get very lost emotionally and he gets very imbalanced - yeah, that's when it's bad!! -

Re: finding out perfect compatibility
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 1:17 PM6th, 8th, etc. refers to sign relationship. Just count from one sign to the other, including the sign you start from. Pisces is the 6th sign from Libra, and Libra is the 8th sign from Pisces, so no, that's not an ideal Moon/Moon connection. But you have to look at the whole picture. Like I said, my Sun/Moon and Moon/Moon situation with my boyfriend is not ideal either, but we still get along fine. 6th/8th house relationships are the most difficult, though, and with the Moons there will usually be some disconnect in terms of how you perceive the world and each other. If you get the chance to look at your kuta points according to your Moon nakshatras, that will also give some insight. Nakshatra placement is different from sign placement, since nakshatra (star) depends on the fixed constellations.

Tue, October 2, 2007 - 4:48 PMmarquisa,
If by "sign" you mean Sun sign, then you have excellent Sun/Moon compatibility with this guy.
Moons opposite - good!
Your Sun same sign as his Moon - good!
Your Moon same element as his Sun - good!
Three hits, can't beat that. Now you need to look at your Rising Signs, to see how well you can actually live together in physical space.

b- I agree..imo a good relationship has all those Mars, Moon, Venus, Saturn, even mercury involved. But That’s just for all the reg. functioning stuff. Pluto for deep passions 8th, 4th, 7th, 2nd...compatible Risings are usually very important, often Sun's not to much..
Neptune- Ya betcha.. All that other stuff is business. It's the shared fantasies, Dreams, that make for real happiness. Looking at each other and seeing, THE most wonderful person in the world, while they scratch some part of their body...

Feel grateful that you can narrow it down like that!
But seriously, an Aries or Taurus Moon would be great for you!
If you want to broaden your horizons, you can include the 2nd & 12th sign positions, but it's best to avoid the 6th & 8th.

Re: finding out perfect compatibility
Tue, October 2, 2007 - 11:42 PMso...i understand that there are many aspects of a relationship that go way beyond astrology and compatibility, and there are way more things to consider in compatibility besides comparing planets and signs...like aspects and house numbers etc...but this is just for fun:)
alright so i took a look at my chart and according to david's formula, i came up with this:
SUN: cancer
-good: cap, can, sco, pis
-avoid: leo, sag, aqu, gem (this sucks because i've fallen for or dated ALL of these sun signs, and no others)
MOON: scorpio
-good: tau, can, sco, pis
-avoid: sag, ari, gem, lib
ASC: cancer
-good: cap, can, sco, pis
-avoid: leo, sag, aqu, gem
MERCURY: leo
-good: leo, aqu, sag, ari
-avoid: vir, cap, pis, can
VENUS: virgo
-good: pis, cap, tau, vir
-avoid: lib, aqu, ari, leo
MARS: cancer
-good: cap, can, sco, pis
-avoid: leo, sag, aqu, gem
JUPITER: saggitarius
-good: gem, ari, leo, sag
-avoid: cap, tau, can, sco
SATURN: libra
-good: ari, lib, aqu, gem
-avoid: sco, pis, tau, vir
URANUS: saggitarius
-good: gem, ari, leo, sag
-avoid: cap, tau, can, sco
NEPTUNE: saggitarius
-good: gem, ari, leo, sag
-avoid: cap, tau, can, sco
PLUTO: libra
-good: ari, lib, aqu, gem
-avoid: sco, pis, tau, vir

Re: finding out perfect compatibility
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 10:19 AMthe other really important factor is conjunction across synastry, especially within a very tight orb - and ESPECIALLY with the Moon.. -
-
Re: finding out perfect compatibility
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 5:26 PMwhat do you mean "conjunction across synastry" and "tight orb"? forgive me, i'm still in the beginning stages of learning astrology. -
-
Re: finding out perfect compatibility
Wed, October 3, 2007 - 10:43 PMconjunction is when one planet is "on top" of another, the orb is the degrees they are away from each other. 8 degree orb = 8 degrees from an exact conjunction, 7 degree orb is seven degrees from an exact conjunction, etc.
conjunctions in synastry are very powerful. For me, it's what I notice right away with a person... example, I have a friend's moon conjunct my IC exactly... we share many of the same childhood loves and experiences, exposed to and developed affinities to the same ideas and objects as children... as if we actually grew up together or something. It was what sparked our friendship. Another I had a man's venus conjunct my mars exactly. First time we looked each other in the eye a spark went off. Another man's venus is conjunct my vertex, my chiron conjunct his ascendant, and he told me the moment he saw me he "knew I needed him and he needed me."
I could list more.. but in genreal conjunctions to the IC, ascendant, moon, and venus can be particularly strong. Mars doesn't seem quite as potent unless the others are involved, because it moves a bit slower. For example, four people I know all have mars conjunct along with mine... but we react to each other in completely different ways, and that "mars" energy doesn't seem to make a huge personal difference. Slower planet conjunctions tend to take a long time to show their "energy" but often reflect long-standing relationship attitudes, in my opinion. -

Re: finding out perfect compatibility
Tue, October 9, 2007 - 9:42 PMHmmm,... compatibility! A delicious topic for any discussion. Astrologically speaking, compatibility can be boiled down to a generic formulae, however the true needs for compatibility is truly found in the individual charts. Not everybody NEEDS the same things to satisfy them in a relationship.
There are some truly important factors to consider when comparing a chart in synastry, but the individual chart should ALWAYS be considered first, then see if the new companion/partner is an appropriate match.
For instance, if a person has a strong signature in their chart of having mostly trines, then perhaps what they desire in a partner is a challenging square to key planets involved in their trine to kick them into action. Conversely, someone with a strong signature in their chart of mostly squares may seek someone to trine these planets to give them some much needed, playful "diversion" and thus bringing them comfort and rest from their already over-active personality. A person with a T-square may even seek an "anchor" to fill in their T-square to make it a Grand square to maximize the energy.
But these are just a few possibilities to what someone may need in a relationship, and this also depends on where they are at in their own personal growth.
A good place to look for compatability in synastry is to always look at the "key players" in love: sun, moon, Venus, Mars, and the ascendant. The secondary "team players" are Mercury and Jupiter for communication, friendship, personal philosophy, ethics and/or religion, and the feeling of "luck" and well-being they bring to each other. The tertiary players are Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto as they are the most challenging in the long-run and play out over time. Uranus may bring an instant feeling of attraction and impulsiveness innitially in bring about an interest in getting together, but may not last if it is in a hard aspect, including the conjunction.
Sun aspects to any personal planet or ascendant is good for an initial recognition of the person and reinforcement of ego energies.
It is also good for health when the aspects are flowing or conjunct. Hard aspects to the sun from personal planets can bring about dual repsonses in the sun of both sexual stimulation but also competition and suspicion of motives, depending on the other aspects in the individual's charts of the aspected planets. For instance, if Mars is in a square aspect to the partner's sun in synastry, but has supportive aspects in the individual's chart, then the sun will recieve challenging energy to grow and feel sexually stimulated by the partner. However, if the same aspect occurs in synastry but the Mars person has challenging aspects to Mars in their chart, then the sun will likely feel suspicious of the Mars person's motivations towards them and become defensive, suspicious, and guarded around them. The relationship will be extremely difficult to get off the ground.
The same can be true of the moon. Conjunctions and trines to the moon from the partner's sun, moon, Venus, Mars, or ascendant are always a good sign of compatibility, but friendships also carry the same signature. Squares, oppositons, and quincunx aspects to the moon from the sun, Mars, Venus, or the ascendant are not necessarily "bad," but require much effort to find a comfortable fit. When these aspects occur in synastry then you should look for an easy aspect from Neptune or Jupiter to the planets involved to ease the tension and open a door to a more peaceful coupling. If no such aspect exists, then you may not ever find that "sweet home" you're looking for.
Venus is always happy to receive any attention from the "love planets." There really isn't a "bad" aspect to Venus, because the "perfect fit" depends on what the individual Venus needs. Again, look at the individual charts to find out the key to compatability there.
Mars is an aggressive planet, no matter what kind of aspect he gives, but you can measure his intensity by the individual chart's signature for Mars. Go from there.
Saturn is a "necessary evil" when it comes to compatability. You really need to have at least a few significant aspects between charts involving Saturn to insure some longevity. Hard or soft aspects are really not important here. What is important is that Saturn links up to a personal planet, especially one of the love planets, to forge a bond of responsibility and maturity in the relationship.
Pluto will always bring about transformation in aspect to personal planets in synastry. Depending on how much the individual's need, want, tolerate, or desire this in a relationship determines the outcome of a relationship with Pluto aspects. -

Re: finding out perfect compatibility
Mon, October 15, 2007 - 8:56 PMI have to agree that "perfect compatability" doesn't exist because that denotes a state of stasis and we are all growing and changing as human beings. Therefore compatability needs to be flexible. I think that "perfect" is an innappropriate ideal to seek unless what you are seeking is someone who can help you grow as much as you help them grow and you grow together rather than apart. That would be "as good as it gets" in the world of human relating.
