Hi, guys. I was just reading a little bit about grand trines and I was wondering if any of you had any and what do you think they mean in your chart? I have a fire grand trine, from my first House (Leo) with Jupiter, to my 6th House (Sag) with Neptune/Moon, to my 10th House (Aries) with Mars/Venus. Grand trines are supposed to signify luck, and it's interesting that mine begins w/ Jupiter in Leo (since Jupiter is the planet that deals w/ luck) and connects to Sag (the natural ruler of Jupiter)...
Serial killers often have fire trines that involve the 8th House... egh.

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Sun, April 20, 2008 - 8:57 PMThat was just one astrologer's interpretation about the grand trine. Fire trines can add violence to a chart. I don't think air is anything to worry about.
I was just reading a website that is doing a study on serial killer's charts and the common astrological signatures, and that didn't come up:
www.astrologyresearchjournal.org/a...tm
I remember watching Unsolved Mysteries a long time ago w/ Carolyn Reynolds... that was really interesting. I think I remember her talking about some sort of sign of the devil in a particular chart - I think Jeffrey Dahmer. I wonder what that is???? -

Sun, April 20, 2008 - 9:08 PMYeah, I would think so too - psychic, creative, artistic, in touch w/ people's emotions, etc. It also depends on the planets and houses involved - which would indicate where it's expressed.

and then theres that whole 12 house sun saying....i think that was one of those 'famous' serial killer things (like jeffrey dahmer) leo sun/stellium 12 house...
this is why i was always like 'ummm...guys?!? wtf?" cuz my bf is 12 house 3 planets and has like alllll the midpoints in all the precarious places....
but obviously a 12 house leo sun (and all the midpoints!) does not make you a psychopath
...might make me wonder tho!

you're not looking for those certain qualities in tendencies I hope,.. so turn that frown upside down : ) ..or i'll have you locked up and study you as a part time hobby that'll last for about a week.
Grand Trines, in my opinion, are lazy. Sometimes its all to easy to let it go nowhere. These configurations in a natal chart are "gifts" that come naturally. When you take it for granted, you become lazed with it. -

Sun, April 20, 2008 - 10:19 PMWell, I must admit that I am a bit morbid and cynical. I am parnoid that their is a latent murderer just wanting to bust out or something... I dunno, I just find unique aspects in a chart interesting. You never know if you might run across a murderer when you are looking at a friend's chart. I googled the devil aspect and I couldn't find anything. I wish I owned a copy of that episode of Unsolved Mysteries. Well, Carolyn has a book out, so maybe she mentions it in there. It's like $3 on amazon.com.
I heard that too about trines and it makes sense to me. Though, I am already lazy due to my Taurus Sun sign, but my Sun sign isn't particularly strong in my chart. Yeah, I can be pretty lazy. For instance, I have a virology exam tomorrow and I should be studying.... *sigh* back to it...

Sun, April 20, 2008 - 11:17 PMTeresa - It doesn't seem like you have a grand fire trine. In element yes (leo, sag, aries) but in aspect (10deg.+/- from 120 deg.) it' doesn't seem likely . In aspect it is your tenth house venus/mars to your fifth house neptune that makes a trine. All that seems too wide and weak to make a grand trine to your Jupiter in the first. Additionally your Jupiter makes a square to your venus/mars by aspect.

Mon, April 21, 2008 - 12:01 AMI was wondering that myself... does it have to be exactly 120 degrees? My chart is a little skewed... if you look at my Jupiter, it's at the far end of my 1st house, then the 6th House planets are close to the 5th... it's just sort of on the edge. Maybe it's a weak trine. No worries... I'm still interested in grand trines in general. -

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 6:44 AMHi, Teresa,
Jupiter in Aries in the first
Venus conjunct Pluto in Leo in the 6th
Moon in Sagittarius in the 9th
When I was growing up, understanding abstract concepts came easy. In school, and elsewhere, I would comprehend the essence of what was being taught right away, and so took it for granted. The problem started when there was something I didn't catch on to easily.....a technique of some kind, or converting a science experiment into numbers and formula. Then I was at a loss because I was so used to things coming easy that I didn't know how to proceed if I had to work hard to understand something. When I came to college, and ran across something I just didn't comprehend, my first reaction was to dropout, and I actually changed majors my freshman year because I ran into a course I just could not 'get'....and I knew I had to take three terms of that subject.
Eventually, I woke up, I guess, and realized I was being lazy-brained. If it didn't come easy, I had been avoiding it. I went back to school, took some pre courses, went on to get straight A's in that course, and the two that followed it.
That was a turning point, I guess, because while I still am kind of lazy brained, preferring stuff that comes easy, I no longer back out when faced with something that requres hard work to figure it out. (Interestingly, it also awakened a love of research in me that had only been peripherally there before that.)
What aspects my Grand Trine? My Jupiter is squared by Uranus in Cancer in the 4th; my Moon quincunxes Uranus; and my Venus semi-sextiles it. I suspect that in part my mother was an enabler, encouraging me whenever she saw my mind at work, but coming across with a 'don't worry about it' attitude when something didn't come easy to me. (Why do I say my mother? Well, she was an Aquarius with Sun conjunct Uranus, so I'd say at least in my chart that the 4th house was her.)

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 10:26 AMZane,
I took a peek at your chart, and noticed(might be wrong...) that you only have two inter-planetary squares, between your Sun and your Saturn, and one between your Jupiter and your Uranus. Both are quite tight, at a less than 2 degree orb, but, basically, the square Uranus makes is more of a generation vs. individual issue, so doesn't really count on a basic, personality, ego-manifestion level.
Anyway, my point is, with your lack of inter-planetary squares, the tendency to drop out at the slightest feeling of effort is more of a lack of square issue, rather than a grand trine issue.
And, sure, the grand trine, with its easy flow of energy, would definitely contribute to this tendency of "abandoning ship",as does an abundance of regular trines, but had you had a tight Sun-Moon square, or a Sun-Mars square, in addition to that Sun-Saturn square, you would've had a different approach to challenges-I mean, naturally, not after learning from mistakes.

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 5:50 PMIn some ways a grand trine can be "lucky" but it isn't a given.
I have a grand water trine with
moon in cancer
uranus = sun/moon
The emotional roller coaster was (and still sometimes is) quite a ride so I am glad I had some nice tight squares and oppositions to get a handle on myself haha! I totally lost myself in emotion when I was young.
And not just getting ahold of myself ... but using and directing all the energy towards something constructive.
It takes time to work out any of these aspects. They aren't just automatic from what I have seen.
Something similar happened to me, Zane when I got to graduate school. Things had come easy and I had been able to "multitask" my education along with all kinds of side pursuits of higher priority and when the time came to put my whole life into it and narrowly focus enough for a PhD I found that I just wasn't able to do it.
I physically couldn't force myself to study the same topic for more than 6 hours in a day and that is a no-go for a PhD! I just wasn't emotionally invested enough in it and I couldn't force my energy into it. The currents towards other things were just too hard to hold back.
I could easily study multiple topics or topics with varied applications and layers for over 10 hours a day. It wasn't just that it was a partying thing. I just couldn't direct so much energy into just one repetitive and narrow topic.
But, I haven't overcome my difficulty yet. Maybe some day. You are inspiring Zane!

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 10:52 AM"Grand trines are supposed to signify luck," Oh yes, and the ability to overcome obstacles and crisis.
Sad thing, at least in my experience with four Grand Trine possessors, is they run into circumstances which require those very things
Best, or worst example (depends on how you look at it) is a lady who:
Lost her biological family early, was adopted.
Had polio, and spent months in an isolated hospital unit.
Had her family wealth destroyed in High School.
Surprised a burglar in her home, and took a beating - twice.
Had cancerous cells in her breast, resulting in a radical mastectomy, with implants.
Implants faulty, had to be redone.
Had two divorces.
The list goes on for pages. She's still going, and generally still smiling. "My life's not been boring!", she says.

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 6:21 PMI can see two possible grand trines in your chart, Teresa.
I see grand fire trine possibly
lilllith
mercury + mars
neptune + moon (by association)
grand earth trine possibly
Nnode+saturn
DC
chiron + sun
I wonder, do you feel either earthy stability/strength or passionate zest for life or something related to those planets there? (The energy would likely be highly modified by the parts forming the grand trines if they "count" hehe)
I know that most people wouldn't count DC or lillith or both but it doesn't seem that there are widely accepted rules for these and I feel the effects of angles and asteroids in aspect in my own chart as far as I can tell. -

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 9:03 PMI have a very exact Grand Water Trine--Sun in Cancer in the second house, Saturn in Pisces in the tenth house, and Neptune in Scorpio in the sixth house, all at 17 degrees of the signs. The Grand Trine forms a kite with my Uranus/Pluto conjunction in Virgo in the fourth house. I'm very creative, imaginative, somewhat psychic, and often "otherworldly" but not very practical. I love writing, acting, singing, and anything that involves a good story. -

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Mon, April 21, 2008 - 9:46 PMThat's quite a funny thing to say, fire grand trines= tendency to be a serial killer :-) I've always liked Alex from Clockwork and Hannibal
I have a fire grand trine in water houses... although the orbs are pretty wide so I don't know how strong it is in my chart. I've had similar problems to what others here mentioned, I want everything to come easy. When I was a student I gave up on math because it's something I was terrible in. It's not in me to struggle hard and do everything I can to understand it. I'd rather focus on what I'm good at than waste my time on something I would never understand. I guess that's a grand trine laziness. A more hard-working student would probably try harder and get satisfaction out of their effort. Not me. My motto is I'd get satisfaction elsewhere. -

Sounds like these grand trines are probably active, then.
Look more into the planets, angles and asteroids forming them and I bet you will learn more (AND the houses for hints on where to direct the energy)
I didn't check to see if any of those were 'kite" formations, either. That can be very telling in how to focus the energy.

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 12:06 AMI think people tend to get all caught up in the possible symbolism of chart "geometry", but it's kinda silly, actually.
I mean, being blinded by some "grand"...whatever figure, you tend to overlook other important aspects. Well, personally, at least, I haven't found chart "figures" to indicate any sort of..."fated ease", or luck, or success, or whatever.
It also depends A LOT on the planets involved.
Just curious: has anyone ever met a person, or seen a chart that has a star of David formation? -
-
Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:14 AMWell Miss Mantis,
"Paul" has a chart that is pretty close to a Star of David formation. people.tribe.net/d86a9803-...72d607febe
I think some Virgo risings get too caught up in details and cant see the whole symatry or synastry. hmmm
If you would stop focusing so much on the "bark" and pull back a bit you could see the "trees".
Pull back even farther and you could behold the beauty of the "forest". haha
A star of David formation consists of two inverted Grand Trines, three oppositions, and three Mystic Rectangles.
It has six planets around the Zodiac Circle at approximantly 5º orbs.
Usually a square is need to give that kick to that dynamo to get it into motion.
Synastry wise, the way my chart is configued, a mixture with a person who has a planet in early Virgo and another in either early Cancer or around 8º Virgo would combine to make a Star of David formation.
And I have the square "kick" from my Uranus / MH and sixth house cusp Mercury to "fire" it up. -

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 1:17 AMForgot to add, that each of the six planets in that configuration also become focal planets to six Kite formations, giving many avenues of expression. -

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 10:29 AMI have to wonder too Bhakti. There is someone, four years younger than me, whom I have known on a professional basis for four years. There has always been a great synergy between us and she has always been my drawing classes favorite model. I always call her first. When I first met her she seemed "familiar". I asked her for her birth info a few weeks ago and found that we have a mutual reception with regard to Sun and Moon. My Moon in Leo makes and exact conjunction to her Sun in Leo. My Sun in Pisces makes a conjunction to her Moon in Pisces. Various other interesting connects but then I looked at our composite chart and saw two supperimposed kites with a stellium, Sun, Moon Venus, in the fifth. Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 3:23 PMBhakti - I was wondering about karma too. So.......her north node conjuncts her moon but is 12 degrees off my Sun. Not sure if I could give conjunction status to my Sun and her NN. Her Moon is already 10 degrees off but it's a Sun/Moon aspect so I'll give it a yes there. Additionally, her NN is conjunct my IC by 3 degrees and makes a trine to my Neptune. My NN trines her Moon and my SN conjuncts her Juno...
That's interesting about your Saturn connections...my soon to be ex's Saturn and Chiron are conjunct my IC.... -

Re: A grand trine in a chart?
Tue, April 22, 2008 - 5:21 PMWhat is a good saturn placement?
Well in my experience saturn doesn't often "feel good" but it can be very constructive and strengthening wherever it shows up.
(if you work it that way - if you aren't careful it can also be restrictive and/ or restraining in all sorts of ways)
I don't know if it does a heck of a lot for attraction and infatuation but I think it does a lot for commitment and trust.
In an age when we all think we should do whatever "feels good" saturn isn't super encouraging.
But if you are looking for commitment and to build something together it is quite comforting. -
