Just curious....Is it possible to determine sleep habits or disposition in the natal chart? What transiting planets would affect one's sleep habits? And dreams, too....?

FaF...sleeping well, never dreaming much...

Hmmm~My 12th house, leo, empty (currently with moon and mercury)...could explain not remembering dreams?

My question was more general than personal, though. Just thought it may be an interesting topic...

planets transiting the 12th seem likely contributors to changes in sleep experiences --and 12th housenatal planets and cusp signs may be indicative of sleep habits in general . . . never heard it mentioned, but that's where i'd look.

I looked at this once. Like looking at my family, kids, some of us, easy to rise easy to go to sleep, some hard to wake and like to stay up late.Me for instance..
Planets in the 12th and 6th. Nept. and Planets in Pisces...
          Go figure huh...lol
Mars also. in 1st. good morning person...It does seem to corilate w/ the few I've looked at but the farther mas is around the chart, the later in the day that person seems to have their peek energy of the day....Early Merc too seems to fit for early risers..but this was a small scale test...(about 9 charts)

my 12 house is empty... pisces is in the 11 house... also empty except for jupiter. neptune is in the 8th house in capricorn with only one aspect to it...

but I have really intense dreams... night terrors growing up, I've also frequently had dreams that happened later.

Pluto might have some to do with it too, since it is rules deep rooted unconscious aspects of the self. it is in the 6th house, so planets transiting my 12 may oppose pluto and give me crazy dreams. It is probably one of those things that is so varied it is difficult to determine where it might actually come from in an astrological perspective unless your in it and can say "hey, it might be that doing it."

I have thought for a while the time of day of a persons birth may effect when they like to sleep and when they like to rise in the morning. It seems that my friends who are night owls are often born in the night time or very early morning hours. Many daytimers seem to have born in the day time. I have risen my whole life at 6:30 am no matter what time I get to sleep. It seems to be some internal clock at work and I was born at 1pm. So my mom was probably in Labor around the time I like to rise out of sleep. Also I know people who live in time zones other than what they were born in and sometimes say they suffer from sleep disturbances. It is just a thought and no real idea right now on the dream part of it. Can't remember the source but I read somewhere that people don't remember dreams if they are under a lot of stress. I do dream constantly about houses and have wondered if thinking about astrology a bunch has caused these dreams.

The moon might indicate fluctuation with myself ,I have found that transit of and to Pluto and moon effects my dreams and the sleeping habits and patterns has a lot with Neptune and jupiter.

There is supposed to be someone who did some research on moon signs and dream motifs and either published a book or a paper on her findings, but I don't know who it was offhand. I was surprised that Neptune did not figure in the equation too.

As for sleep, maybe it might depend on Mercury or Uranus aspects as to how easy an individual might find it to get to sleep in the first place.

I also heard, but again, do not quite remeber where this was suggested, that Summer-born people may need less sleep than Winter-born people. Then there would be an obvious connection with sunlight and day-time, as opposed to night-time.

I think that makes a bit of sense... see if the person sleeps that much at all....

Im a pure night owl born at noon on the longest day of the year.... Yet I really don't sleep too much...

                      4-5 hours at a time....

My Dreams are so lucid.... easy to control.... in all reality I kind of know when Im sleeping.... I got an alarm clock in my mind, so I don't use one in real life... Be on an epic adventure then go damn time to wake up from work!

When I was a child, I had an obession with "beating out nightmares".... So to me a nightmare = Challange.... If I was ever scared outta it... I would go right back to sleep and say.... Im going to beat that one!

That maybe from Moon sextile to Sun Mars Pluto.

My 5 senses seem to be very active, as I can touch, taste, and even smell in my dreams. Maybe of the Earth signature.... Moon in Virgo 12th.... Neptune in Capricorn 4th.

I guess I am more of day dreamer then a sleeper dreamer! Still waiting for this wall to start moving.... lol

yeah, I agree with the time of day thing. I was born in the early morning hours, and I am a night owl. My mother was born in the day time, and she is a daywalker. It might also have to do with internal likes and dislikes, such as enjoying the quiet, or being a "dreamer" sort of person.

Seeing how sleep is a condition of deep biological rest, I'd say the MOON makes a good symbol for the conditions and patterns of one's sleep and also, the depth of our dream recall. Though I believe we all dream, each of us has a different depth of dream recall. Not everyone remembers their dreams.

Some of us have difficulty sleeping. We are either very light sleepers or suffer from insomnia. When the need for sleep is frustrated, the MOON is frustrated, symbolizing a dissatisfied life...a life not fully lived. I think those who live full lives during the day rarely have trouble sleeping at night.

Sleep-deprivation is a condition of increasing biological stress that can lead to dream-like, almost hallucinatory mental states. I think when the natal MOON aspects NEPTUNE (natally and/or by transit), the depth of dream recall can be amplified and the dreams themselves, extreme in their imagery and emotion.

I have times when I have lots of dreams and then I can go 2-3 mths without remembering one. The dreams I do remember are very vivid and intense. There have been times when I have awakened when trying to scream and just froze. sometimes I am not even sure if it was a dream or real life. these occurrences all kind of correlate with stress levels. Also as a child I was a sleep walker & it still happens now; but maybe once a year. I am not sure what part 12th house Pluto would play here.

As far as bed time, majority of the timeI close my eyes & I am out. Then I open my eyes & its morning time. Down time and my on & off switch- could be my mars opposite Saturn. My mom always jokes about how when I was around 3 yrs old she lost track of time. She looked at the clock and realized it was past my nap time. She looked out the kitchen window and I was fast asleep in the sandbox =)

I dream a lot. I can sleep pretty much any time...specially if I'm tired, but I tend to be a night owl / early morning person.
I'm probably sharper at night to about 10 a.m. I'm not much for afternoons, days. Don't know why.
I was born at 6:25 a.m., so that might have something to do with it. I also wake up early regardless of when I get to bed.
And my favorite season is the fall (not that it has anything to do with it). Go figure.

    Peace, Bo

My moon is in Libra, conjunct Uranus in the 8th house.
It's strange...my mom's a Libra sun and she has had eerie dreams, with premonitions of things that eventually happen. She's had dreams of several family members' deaths, and within a month...they're gone. Kind of freaky.
She's has very good, vivid dream recall.
I can recall most of my dreams, but not as vivid. And I've only had one premonition that I can say.
But I sleep like a rock. I've even slept through some powerful earthquakes.

      Peace, Bo

I have a theory on what will return your dreams. Buy expensive shampoo. When you lather up your hair, leave it in for 8 or 10 minutes before rinsing.

I have always had wicked crazy dreams. Revealing ones, at that. I also (I know someone else mentioned this) sometimes have brutal sleeps where I'm waking up in nightsweats and screaming in my sleep. I have Gemini in 12th, Mercury in Aries. I was born at 9:05am so I, regrettably, tend to not be able to fall asleep easily at night. I hate it cuz I wake up early morning and am tired all day sometimes! lol.

My sister and I talk to each other during our dreams(or so our cousin tells us).

My neptune joins her neptune into a stellium with her sun and mercury.
my Nnode and saturn are in her 12th house (pretty sure her ascendant is libra) squaring that neptune-neptune-sun-mercury stellium.

I preface this by stating that my moon shares the same degree as my neptune, and I am a heavy 12th houser.

I am a compulsive sleeper, more in the past then recently - I've attempted to break this habbit. I suspect for me, the compulsive sleeping developed not only as an escape method for the purposes of regeneration, but as a channel to enter another world. My dream state is (and moreso, was) extremely intense, vivid, and very powerful - although after some experiences in my teenage years it was dulled a great deal. I'm working on somehow recapturing the intense dream states and astral experiences I had when I was young.

Sherpa's theory on the moon is very interesting, I'd tend to agree in theory - although I've had no actual practice or observation, perhaps its worth firing up my databases and taking a look.

    Hrm, interesting topic.
