I would be seriously remiss if I didn't say something about this Summer's Solstice, which occured on Wed Jun 20, 2012 at 7.08.47PM EDT here in Philly, the moment when the Sun entered 0 degrees Cancer, on the longest day of the year. At that precise moment, 12 degrees Sagittarius - a Fire Sign - was rising on the eastern horizon.
Such a Sign rising on the Asc, along with the Sun at its maximum power in "vertical" terms, when the Sun exceeds 23 degrees in declinational latitude north of the celestial equator, has significant portents for the weather conditions for Philly and the immediate surrounding area, mainly due to the Sun also being square the Aries Point, the most powerful zone of the entire Zodiac. Fire Signs infer heat, as do "fire planets" like Mars and of course, the Sun itself. At that crucial moment last Wed, the Sun was setting in the 7th house, though still strong by virtue of being angular, and tightly square the MC of the moment, which was 1 degree Libra. Both a Fire Sign rising, along with an extremely strong Sun, account for the devastating heatwave the city recently experienced over the past week or so, and as such an ingress chart sets the tone for the season in general, my guess is that what we saw last week was only the beginning. With transit Mars in the final degrees of Virgo and soon to transition into Libra, itself opposing the Aries Point, squaring the Summer Solstice Sun and sitting atop the MC in the same chart in the next week or so, it is my surmise that we'll see another heatwave hit us just in time for the annual Philly 4th of July celebrations taking place.
Curiously, this same chart features the Big Uranus-Pluto square angular, with Pluto rising in the Asc and Uranus in the 4th; this would speak to lots of volatility in general and with regard to weather patterns in particular, to windy, dry conditions while at the same time, lots of heat (Pluto in Capricorn, a "dry" Sign, magnifying Uranus, a "windy planet" in Aries, a "fire" Sign).
But all of this seems to be contradicted by the Sun's trine to Neptune which is dignified in Pisces; and this same dignified Neptune being square to the chart ruling Jupiter in Gemini, and in the Solstice 6th house. The conspicuous role of Neptune here of course, suggests that lots of water, ie, rain, possibly flooding and the like, could be in the offing this Summer season as well - especially when we factor in a Cancer Moon on top of the Solstice Sun itself. Not much rain has happened thus far, but Summer 2012 has only been a week old; much could transpire over the course of the next few months, especially as the Moon, and later the Sun, moves to form t-square aspects to the aforementioned Jupiter-Neptune square in this horoscope.
Several midpoint pictures emerge here that require our attention: Sun=Mars/Uranus, again denoting heat/dryness; and Uranus+Pluto=Sun/Moon, tying in the aforementioned Uranus-Pluto angular square into both the Lights themselves. The Cancerian Moon, itself unaspected in the Solstice chart, is also at the Saturn/Uranus midpoint; could "wind and water" be a theme at some point this Summer?
Hmm...
